    Marsa Alam in February

I'm probably too late with the advice but the safest bet in February would be the Iberotel Costa Mares, located in the Marsa Mubarak bay (house of one of the resident dugong in the area). The hotel is on the expensive side, but if you can afford it you're pretty much guaranteed to swim with...

Unguided diving in Egypt and 300bar tanks/compressors?

In Dahab and Sharm no one will rent you cylinders to dive unguided. I specifically asked this quite a few times in Sharm and always got the same answer, with claims that this was the general rule, that only qualified DM's can dive unguided etc. In Marsa Alam however you can easily do it (30+...

PSA if traveling to a Red Sea liveaboard and you use a yoke fitting

I ran into exactly this problem last summer in Marsa Alam. Tried all 7 adapters onboard with no luck. Sorted it out only after taking the oring from one adapter and installing it on another, which had a slightly different lip shape. I usually carry my own adapter but on this trip I forgot it...

Question Egypt Mixed Family Diving Recommendations

Sharm, day boat trip for the entire family to Ras Mohamed natural reserve (quite a few good sites for OW certification) . Then in other days you can do Thistelgorm, the good dives at Thomas reef, Jackson reef, Shark&Yolanda etc etc

Red sea in December - Best option?

If you haven't visited Egypt before and are even remotely interested in ancient art and architecture then Luxor is an absolute must. You can do a comprehensive visit as a 2 day trip from Hurghada.

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

Well, at some point before the COVID outbreak I was contemplating a family grand Eastern Med tour with my car, taking it by ferry from Cyprus to Israel and then crossing into Egypt etc. As an Israeli you're not going to be very proud when you hear where the whole plan collapsed. It was when I...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

My guess is that it was the combination between a full visa and the Taba entry point which triggered them. Probably 99.99% of the Israelis coming trough Taba get the free stamp on arrival without any hassle so you looked suspicious from the start. Add the fancy camera rig and they felt the need...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

IMO that's a bit unfair, considering precisely your past trip to Ras Mo etc. Btw, when and how did you got the 25$ full Egyptian visa? Was it before arriving to Eilat/Taba or at the border?

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

Well, what you could have done, given the circumstances, was to check in for two days at Mowenpick right after the checkpoint, do the following day the splendid little trip to Saladin's castle on the nearby island and claim your rig during the second day, when their chief agent came in. Of...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

Well, I guess they were either scared this could be assembled into some sort of weapon and didn't wanted to take credit (so to speak) for letting you in OR (most likely) were afraid the rig could do things on it's own therefore somehow falling into the drone category. No one in Egypt is going...

Resort with nice housereef/integrated diving base on Sinai?

Unguided diving is possible in the Marsa area (or at least it was back in 2019) but in Sharm I've never been able to persuade any dive center to rent me just the tank and the belts without booking the dive with them. Of course, I haven't tried them all, so maybe there are exceptions, but the...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

Wait, what? It's a well known thing that Egypt has a policy against drones but unless your underwater camera rig could be considered a drone I don't understand what happened there. In an case the Taba border crossing is NOT a shack by any stretch of imagination, unless you didn't even made it...

    Hurghada vs. Sharm

The only time effective way to go from Sharm to Hurghada right now is by plane (or to hire a boat if you have a large enough group - which is not your case). Sharm would fit nicely the purpose of warming up for the LoB week and tbh I'd try not to miss the Thistelgorm if you don't plan to come...

Dive shops in Sharm El Sheik

This time with Blue Planet and GoldStar, but I'm quite familiar with all the tricks and manage to avoid them. If you don't have all the gear you need to go to the dive shop and select it yourself insisting that you don't board if other stuff shows up, before handing over the $ you need to make...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

If you call any cabbie in Dahab they'll take you to Sharm from Taba border for 75$ per car including luggage. You can dig them up easily on FB etc. Can be quite cheap if you have a group of 3 or 4. There was also a public bus (everyone on the Egyptian side said there isn't  but lo and...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

The point is that if an Egyptian company is taking Israeli citizens to those destination they aren't bribing anyone, they simply are up top date with the regulations, while the foreign owned companies are not. No (sane) Egyptian would risk landing into an Egyptian prison on espionage charges...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

OK, that's an entirely different matter, when you said "Egyptian authorities making problems for guests traveling on Israeli passports" that was far less specific and totally not true. Whatever the problem is with Aggressor and Blue O Two, it has nothing to do with marine parks, as I've dived...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

Folks, stop peddling totally false information. THERE IS and has been for many years a direct flight from Ben Gurion (Tel Avivi/Jerusalem) to Cairo, operated by a company called Air Sinai. (Barmaglot beat me to it) Which is actually Egypt air in disguise, as they couldn't operate this under...

Blue O Two holding a 50% off sale for Red Sea routes

This is absolutely not true, I've just (as in 6 days ago) been on a boat in Sharm with two divers from Israel. During the last two years I've crossed multiple times the Eilat-Taba borders in both directions and seen LOTS of Israelis crossing into Egypt to hit the Taba casinos. In Mowenpick Taba...

Dive shops in Sharm El Sheik

Well, I just came from Sharm (as in yesterday) and couldn't get Camel or Emperor to answer the phone despite numerous attempts so it's safe to say they're both closed right now. Prices are very low right now to say the least.
