    Very interested in BP/w. Confused/help

I thank everyone for their thoughts. I was leaning towards a few extra pounds lift because of what Brett Hatch said about rough water ( my favorite Puget Sound dive we have done is exposed and can get rough), so I can carry a pony bottle, help my son if needed (though unlikely, he's pretty...

Thanks Lexvil, Unfortunately there are no pools available any where near by. I may have to drive somewhere to test this.

Good points. My dive buddy is my son, who I love to death, and was the one who asked me to be his dive partner and got me into this awesome sport a little over 2 years ago. I am thinking a few extra pounds lift might be worth it. I had been thinking the VDH 35# wing, but Bryan isn't sure when...

Thanks everyone. I learned some things I was thinking about incorrectly. My only thought I need to work out yet is if I should get a wing with over 30# lift, because If I use a steel HP 100 and SS backplate, I can then only put around 14 #'s of lead on the back plate, leaving any more lead I...

So a 30# wing would work with either an 80 or 100 HP steel tank, ss backplate as long as I don't put to much lead on the bp/w. MOre weight would need ot be on a blet or harness?

I have heard Halcyon is great, but it is out of my budget. I have never used a BP/W yet. My thought was some weight in a harness, and some on the BP/W. I am not sure how much less lead I will need going to a BP/w. I realize a SS backplate is - 5 to -6 lbs, but I am not sure how positively...

Thank you all. I have learned a lot, and have much to think on. I can see i was looking at the need for lift incorrectly. I am now trying to figure out how much lead I would need for the coldest diving I might do, if I were to get a SS backplate. Layering wool and fleece seemed to add a lot...

Thanks for the offer. That would be great, maybe if this passes soon. My son and I have gone a couple times in Lake Couer D'Alene and once in the Columbia River in the last month and a half, but did it on the days I am furloughed (due to Covid cost savings for the state) to avoid people.

Not very often, especially with the virus. A good friend of mine lives up north of you on Camano Island, and I try to get over a few times a year to visit, but he doesn't want visitors right now with Covid. I live in Dayton over near Walla Walla.

OK, thanks for the info so far. So the heavier denier doesn't appear to be an issue. I am not disputing anyones thoughts on this, since I have no experience with wings, and probably the fewest dives in general. That being said, the 30 lbs wing seems like it might be marginal. My reasoning...

HI all, I have been diving 2 years with 76 dives. I live in SE Washington state and primarily dive in local lakes, the Columbia River, and a couple time a year in Puget sound. I have been to the Caribbean twice to dive, and hope to go on a tropical dive trip every year. I am a recreational...
