I want to be fit & trim - but HATE exercising!

Swimming is my favorite all-around exercise, but unfortunately I usually only have access to a pool when class is in session. If you aren't a student, many US universities have pool facilities that you can access, you might just have to pay a bit extra for a member card. I like to do Pilates...

    Expanding ScubaBoard to social media

Not since I got reamed out for suggesting not dragging fins on silt. I have seen others mention SB on there though

    Expanding ScubaBoard to social media

My family is often solely reachable through social media, so I keep a few connections now that we're all in different states (or countries). I follow a few diving organizations on Instagram, including DAN, and they often share interesting diving science articles, links to upcoming events or...

I want to be fit & trim - but HATE exercising!

That's what I'll probably do in the end. I have both long hair and a 30 minute walking commute (I bike but I'm not sure how the bike paths will fare once it snows), so just wanted to see if there were any "advanced" wet hair tips that folks had. Drat, now I have to practice scarf wrapping.

I want to be fit & trim - but HATE exercising!

I finally have access to a pool again (still working on dusting off the dive gear), but it's also now getting cold in the Northeast. I'm not keen on dragging a hair dryer around and gym dryers are usually terrible, which means wet hair, and probably wet hair in the middle of my workday...

Glad it worked out for you! Let us know how it is diving

    Bare Wetsuit

The Nixie is currently on clearance sale on Bare Outlet (select sizes, check if yours is there). I've only tried the Bare Evoke 7mm and it's one of my most treasured pieces of gear. From the descriptions, the main obvious difference is the Bare Evoke 5mm has wrist, ankle, and neck zippers but I...

Deep 6 Signature Regs Review with Long Hose Config

Oh boo. They still showed as open when I looked recently but I must've not looked closely enough

Deep 6 Signature Regs Review with Long Hose Config

I already had BP/W from elsewhere, but the second I hear that they have wetsuits in women's sizes and proportions, I'm jumping on it. I've heard nothing but good things about their wetsuits and I just have my fingers crossed that at some point they open a women's line. Once I'm back to diving...

Full PhD scholarship recording bubbles in divers

I'll post this on my grad/prospective grad student groups! Too bad I already got my PhD spot, but I prefer non-human subjects anyway

What is the fundamental reason that prevents scuba diving from becoming popular?

And not everyone who lives close to the coast particularly likes the water or encourages that in their kids too. My sister and I grew up only an hour away from the beach but my mom was terrified of the water. We only went a handful of times and each time I remember as soon as I tried to run to...

What is the fundamental reason that prevents scuba diving from becoming popular?

Tourism isn't necessarily good though. You get places that are so heavily dependent on tourism that they ignore or cover up the state of the environment because it might impact business if they imposed conservation restrictions or paused operations to clean up (looking at you Australia). Even in...

    Question about experimenting with weighting

It definitely feels like my head is empty sometimes... That's the same method that I've always used and been instructed to use for pre-dive weight checks though, and it seems to work well enough

    Overweight Newbie Gear Question

I have a few plus-sized and not-standard-shaped friends who went with the Aqualung Rogue and really like it, if you don't want to go the harness bp/w route. It's a back inflate bcd with modular straps - you can choose how long you want each part to be, and the straps are a soft, cushiony fabric...

    Help deciding between brands backplate/wing

    Help deciding between brands backplate/wing

I have the DGX and love it. Served me well even for weeks of multiple dives in cold water, and I really like that DGX has so many spare parts for back-ups or replacements, and it's very affordable. The other bonus was that the DGX was much plainer and seemed very easy to tailor to myself and how...

What is the fundamental reason that prevents scuba diving from becoming popular?

Anecdotally I have seen more threads from SBers about finally going out to try diving locally as opposed to old habits of waiting for a dive trip. I wonder how that balances out with landlocked divers/those of us who couldn't access dive sites because of travel restrictions and local ordinances

Are zipties used for diving gear just regular zip ties?

Just regular but I'd encourage getting colors other than the color of your gear. Makes it easier to confidently cut off when you have to replace a zip tie, and very colorful zip ties might reduce the chance of family members stealing them for home improvement projects.
