High quality lights using AA, AAA, or C NiMH batteries

I have been using the GRALmarine KX max for a ~year as my backup light and I am really happy with it. It's simple but solid, and needs 3xC batteries. I guess you could put rechargeable ones in it. Burn time is ~2-3h, with a rather bright 1300 lumens. Oh and it fits well on my BP/W shoulder ring!

    First time diving cozumel

A random odd recommendation for a non-diving activity: a few times a week, the Cozumel Observatory holds night sky viewing sessions from 7pm to 9pm. You get to take a peek through their massive telescope, and it's pretty impressive. You can see nebulae, planets, etc. We saw Saturn's rings, it...

Choosing between Malapascua, Southern Leytey, Dumaguete/Dauin, and Moalboal

Hey to the Philippine experts of Scubaboard, I am currently in the process of planning a two weeks vacation in the Philippines, in the Visayas. We're flying in Cebu on the 9th of March, landing at 6:55pm. We're flying out on the 21st, at 8:05pm. Thus, I expect to have 11 days to fill with...

    Car ferry preferences

I took both on a recent trip to Cozumel. Ultramar on the way in, Transcaribe on the way out. They are essentially the same, and I recommend to take whichever one suits your schedule. Ultramar is slightly cheaper at 400 pesos, while Transcaribe is 500. Surprisingly, I found the Ultramar ferry to...

Relatively new diver on a liveaboard around Similan doing AOW

Hey Edwon1, My father found himself in a similar situation. He had less than 10 dives--in the extremely beginner-friendly waters of Koh Tao--and did his AOW on a liveaboard in the Similan. It went well, the instructor he had was dedicated. It ended up being more of a week-long dive course than...

Two weeks in Bali & one other island. Never been. Recommendations?

I spent a month driving around Java, Bali, and Lombok last summer, and I did some diving as well so I might be able to provide some pointers. Regarding diving, Others have given you good points, the Komodo are the best and Bali + Komodo is totally doable. The USAT Liberty wreck in Tulamben...
