    New Gear / Purchase Questions

Everything I list below will take you from 1 dive to 10,000 dives, cave and instructor if taken care of. For the Record, I bought myself and the Kids all Zeagle and Atomic gear when we started diving, it is great stuff but.... I replacedn of mine in under 3 years, my daughters in under 5. It...

GoPro 7 Hero Black vs 8: Worth $80 more?

That sucks, and I feel your pain, sadly underwater anything can happen. My dive partners Wife has the Nauticam Housing for her Nikon (way out of my price range) She swears by the unit.

GoPro 7 Hero Black vs 8: Worth $80 more?

Yes, the difference form the 3 to the 7 is huge... My dive buddy has the 3, I the 7. If I had a choice, I go to the 8 or 9. When diving at depth, the filters help a lot. Unless of course you use a lot of light. But if you used that much light, you be getting a DSLR. :)

    NAUI Instructors and Nitrox Card

Since I always have my phone, I always have all of my C-Cards, incase I run into ignorant shops. NAUI Instructors do have a lot of perks, so yes once certified you can teach everything up to DM as a program. If you want the individual courses, there was a 1 time fee of about $120 (true 3 years...

GoPro 7 Hero Black vs 8: Worth $80 more?

I have the 7, and the aftermarket filters suck. GoPro makes 3 color filters for the hero 8 and 9, though the filters are not interchangeable.

advanced open water with padi or naui

Hello Daniel, For almost every cert our there, Never pick an Agency. It is always better to pick the instructor and the specialties fits you and your diving best. I can teach underwater photography, but I do not teach it. I am not that great and if that is your thing, you need an instructor...

At what point would it be recommended to carry a back up mask?

Mask Rule #1 - if find the perfect buy 2. Do you need in the water every dive.... that's debatable. Mine is always on site for every dive, and in my pocket on every Tech or Instructional dive. As a DM, I always carried a cheap backup, as a professional cursorily incase a dive looses theirs.

Is a Pony Bottle too complicated for a beginner?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with you carrying a Pony Bottle. If it gives you an added comfort under the water do it..... I do not know what water and diving conditions you are diving in. Most OW dives in S. FL it is not needed, but head up to Jupiter where they drop OW divers off at 85...

Yellow hoses and Yellow regulator Question

A lot of people think Long Hose is Tech... This is an incorrect belief. Remember that your Yellow Octo use to be Tech, until it was adopted by the agencies in the late 80;s early 90's. There are several agencies that do not even teach your short Octo to students, and only teach long hose. Why...

Yellow hoses and Yellow regulator Question

While I completely agree with you on checking SPG, weird stuff happens. I remember read a book, and the author talked how the tank had filled with water internally, and only had like a few minutes of air. They found there where issues where there filling station was. Another issues in...

Shearwater now majority owned by private equity firm

I worded my response poorly.... Again I really liked the Ratio, and considered purchasing one or even becoming a distributer. In the end I purchased my Teric and have not looked back, adding a Perdix to my collection. If I was in Europe, maybe I would have gone with the Ratio. For the most...

Shearwater now majority owned by private equity firm

I do not discredit your opinion and I could pick apart each one, bit that's dumb. I used a Ratio at DEMA and liked the computer. In 2009, the iPod was not in the Top 10 for sound quality. Yet iPod dominated the market on aesthetics. People are snobs, shearwater wins cosmetics.

Teric Battery Drain - When OFF

Battery drain was explained here or another thread. Short version, supplier could not keep up with Shearwater demand, and made the batteries out of the clean room. Many of these batteries where garbage. Problem fixed, and all new batteries should last 5 years.

Yellow hoses and Yellow regulator Question

I would suggest some people read about real OOA stories. Here are some top issues. I have experienced everyone of these during my recreational and professional scuba career. Dan use to post a list, items 1-3 always in the top 5. 1. OOA diver comes from Above 2. OOA diver is not your buddy 3...
