I've also done Mnemba Island. It's pristine - but I'm happy I didn't stay at the resort as I was a poor student at the time. Instead I just did a day trip - don't remember what I paid. I enjoyed the diving. Very very clear, dolphins, turtles... It were good dives for sure!

Heya, There's quite a few options for departure from Cairns but your limited time makes it more tricky. Coral Sea Dreaming does 2D/1N liveaboards. Another option you could consider is going to Port Douglas, an hour or so above Cairs and do 2 day trips with a dive shop there. For example...
