    What lens?

With the 17-40 F4 lens, I feel you'd want to use the 8" dome port instead of the 6". I shoot with a 20D body - 16-35 2.8L lens using the 8" dome port without issue. I don't generally use a strobe with this lens, but if you reduce the amount of water between you and the subject as well as...

    UW photo at night

Most good strobes have a focus light within them. Shooting UW at night requires a significant amount of light - which a dive light won't provide. I doubt you'd be happy with the result of an internal flash - not sure what housing you're using etc.. Most importantly though - if you're not...

    FS: Ikelite/Canon Rebel XT System

You'll love the 20D as your underwater body! It's very versatile, inexpensive in the aweful event of a flood, accepts all the good lens, everyone makes a body and compatible TTL strobes, etc... Good hunting!! Monty Chandler Underwater Explorations

Canon 40D with 18-55 lens and diopter?

In my view you do not need the diopter. The 6" dome will work fine for the 18-55 kit lens. The 40D is a good choice for body as you'll need to use it's capabilities. Try like heck not to use a strobe as you'll probably encounter more back-scatter than you'd think - unless you're a pretty good...

    Macro Photography in Belize

While Belize does offer Macro photo opportunities, I have not found that to be its best photographic side. Belize is photographically unique in my opinion. The clarity of the water, the availability of light, and the lushness & diversity of the coral made it a superior wide angle dive region...

To touch or not to touch?

I'll go out on a limb with this one and say what I really think - and what I tell someone I see touching critters when we get topside. You have to be amazingly stupid to touch the critters for your own inquisitiveness. This is not a gray area topic or one that needs rationalization.

Oh don't worry - there's no way you'll think you're in or near South Beach, FL while visiting Belize. Ever heard the saying "lipstick on a pig"?

    Saba Trip Report Jan 08

I found Saba diving to be very different to that of the ABC islands. Coral vs lava rock, sealife varieties, depths, currents, etc. - all different (remember - different does not imply or equal bad, just different). In fact Saba was unique to St. Kitts and Statia as well. If you are in the...

    40D questions

Any chance you are headed to Cocoview? If yes - your starting point would be to set up an appointment with Tim Blanton - the photo pro there. If no - since you have only mentioned the stock lens I suspect you have the 6" WA port. Be sure to shoot in RAW so white balance won't be a problem and...
