Balanced weighting on SeaFrogs 8" Dome (keeps rotating dome up)

Edit: Posted the below before reading Barmaglot's post. I'm going to get a few more Large Stix floats to add to my arms. OK, still looking for advice here (esp for those trying to solve the same problem), but I was looking at the pictures I posted here and thought, "let me try moving all the...

Balanced weighting on SeaFrogs 8" Dome (keeps rotating dome up)

TL;DR: How do I set up my rig's weight/flotation to keep the dome from rotating dome-up? Hello folks, I just got the SeaFrogs Salted Line 8" dome. I previously had the 6" dome. The 6" dome was easy to get to neutral, balanced weighting - just about 36 (?) 7G wheel weights around the hood. I'm...

    New a6xxx housing from Meikon

Thanks, yes Monterey! Casual dive down the wall to check out the sea lions. I mean the plastic piece literally broke in half inside the housing. I've got a replacement on the way. No idea what happened. Something I did put too much stress on it I guess. I honestly didn't miss it much.

Tips on sales for underwater strobes?

Thanks for the tips and the link to the used pair -- with the shipping cost the seller mentioned later on ($150) it puts the price close enough to a new pair to give me pause. Looks like I may have to fork out full price. But maybe the market will be better for my used YS-01s.

Seafrogs Salted A6xxx housing too tall for normal trigger arm-levers? Solved!

Yea, I understand. Actually I did not alter the print, I just used longer screws I had sitting around that were a) stainless and b) same size / thread pitch as the other screws. What coincidence? They were for a raspberry pi case. The piece worked a charm, I was able to use the trigger for a...

Tips on sales for underwater strobes?

Hey folks, I've decided to upgrade my strobes to Inon Z330s as my YS-01s are a bit underpowered/undefeatured for my a6000 rig (doing mostly CFWA right now). Looking for any tips on sales on new strobes so I can figure out timing the purchase: - When do sales tend to occur for the major...

    New a6xxx housing from Meikon

Did a couple dives with the Gen3 housing. Good experience overall. Only problem is that the piece of plastic that mates with the on/off switch inside the housing broke after my first dive. Not sure what's up with that. It never broke on my Gen1. It was kind of freeing, actually -- I used to...

To tether or not to tether

So far I'm liking the coiled lanyard solution, allows short & long tethered configurations without too much bulk in the way. Unfortunately the one I bought from the dive shop broke at BOTH coil ends on my dive yesterday, after maybe 10 dives. I never actually load the coil as it's only in use...

Seafrogs Salted A6xxx housing too tall for normal trigger arm-levers? Solved!

OK fantastic, yes I was overthinking it. For some reason I didn't think plastic <> metal interface w/ threads would work. For sure. I was thinking of online services. I ended up printing 2x of them with Shapeways at $10 a piece. Chose PA12 as the meterial. Shipping was kinda $. Actually I'm...

Seafrogs Salted A6xxx housing too tall for normal trigger arm-levers? Solved!

This is awesome, thank you. What material did you use to print this? Which printing service? Struggling to choose material because of the many requirements of that piece (thread for metal bolt, rigid, salt water / uv, etc)

    Fitness and diving

Can anyone summarize the Fitness for Divers book? Is it actually based on modern exercise science / training of divers?

Does More (exercised) Muscle = Better Efficiency?

Yes, I'd like to know the methodology too. It's not a super valuable test on its own unless you observe how the individual climbed the stairs. If they sprinted up them, they'd have a much higher heart rate. However, there's independent value in measuring how fast their heart rate recovers from...

Does More (exercised) Muscle = Better Efficiency?

I'm not sure it's worth spending a ton of time on individual folks' physiology, so I think both of your points are valid here. Mountaineers should be targeting a low heart rate when they climb (ie like zone1-2) because mountaineering is a very long duration endurance activity. So, a highly...

Does More (exercised) Muscle = Better Efficiency?

This. The thinking that strength training isn't valuable for endurance-type sports is very old school. I wish we had better continuing education on exercise science. When I started training for alpine climbing, I read a book on the cutting edge training for high end endurance athletes and it...

    New a6xxx housing from Meikon

So, I tried to convince SeaFrogs to give me the upgrade deal without destroying the old housing, since it would still be safe to use with the pistol grip (which replaces the bottom plug when you're using it). They refused. I understand their terms on the upgrade, I'm OK with them, but...

    Student lost - Seattle, Washington

Thanks for taking the time to explain more, and I apologize about my last line about caring, that was over the line. I think I understand what you're saying better now. Assuming limited information, we should use the information we have to imagine possible causes, short of speculation. I cited...

    Student lost - Seattle, Washington

I had to re-read this a few times. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, because this is pretty much the opposite of what should be done. NHTSA and NTSB, for example, meticulously investigate and analyze incidents in order to provide recommendations on changes based on the actual causes of the incidents...

Wing Lift - Cold water, 8/7 semi-dry suit

I can't find my luggage scale, but 2 lbs juuuust sank my boots + gloves, which shaves a bit off the estimate. Overall, it looks like 30 lbs is good even in the worse case (start of dive) as long as I am properly weighted and I don't go much deeper than 100'. I should obviously be cautious & do...

Wing Lift - Cold water, 8/7 semi-dry suit

Oh, sorry I misunderstood your comment initially. You're suggesting that the estimates could be off by quite a bit and I should measure them to be sure. How does the luggage scale work? Do you add weight until it's negative in the water, then attach the bag to a luggage weight and subtract that...

Wing Lift - Cold water, 8/7 semi-dry suit

I added the estimated buoyancy of 5mm boots and 3mm gloves from the sheet to the manual wetsuit buoyancy figure. I can measure them today too to make it more accurate. The hood is integrated in the suit so is part of the 25lbs measurement.
