Swivel Ball Joints For 2nd Stage -- Worth It?

I've had mine fail twice, L/H short in SM, luckily noticed during pre dive checks. I'm going to try without it for a while.

What kind of regulator service should I get?

Apeks is a service check the first year (odd years, visual inspection, IP, cracking effort etc) rebuild on the 2nd year (even years). Exception would be rentals or heavy use. Where are you located because in some countries kits are free for life.

    Need a drysuit

Look into Abyss Dry suits if you would be okay with neoprene or compressed neoprene. These suits are made in Nova Scotia.

Where did you solo dive today?

Hadn't dove in 26 days :( a trip to the Fundy coast wasn't an option today so I dove a local lake that I'm familiar with. First dive was 57 minutes, max 35 feet, average 21 feet and ^3F (17C); finished with 1/3 of my gas. Second was 50 minutes, max 25.5 feet average 19 feet, had to meet a...

    Budget reg opinion

Apeks may have parts for life, they do in Canada. The XTX50 is a great reg and so is the Dive Rite XT, I don't have experience with DGX regs.

@Rukkian what are you using for regulators?

    Lessons learned?

Understand gas management practices specific to SM and practice regulator switches (you could do this with your BM Octo). Hose routing can be agency/instructor depend but most have a long hose (5-7 feet) on the right side, understand how to stow that hose properly. Trim is important, neutral...

    Lessons learned?

For perspective, I had no issues doing the rec SM course around the 50 dive mark, the solo course was a challenge and I had about 115 dives by then and around 50 in my SM configuration. Gas planning / management is a bit different in SM plus drills such as the S drill, tank pivots etc will add...

    Lessons learned?

+1 on getting some rec training / experience before going tech SM. I have around 75 dives SM and did solo in this configuration; after about 50 and it was a wake up as far a skills go. I don't dive tech but if solo was challenging then I would assume tech would be more so.

    Always wear a wetsuit?

I would likely wear a wet suit. I generally dive dry as our temperatures in the bay of Fundy rarely reach 57F; however when I dove in the Caribbean I still wore a 3mm wetsuit for protection from critters etc and would do so in the future.

Where did you solo dive today?

25 Aug, did two shore dives exploring a cove I've only dove a few times in the Bay of Fundy. First dive followed the wall to my left, very shallow max 16 feet so after 41 minutes I still had 1500psi in each LP50 side mount cylinder. Second dive I followed a mooring chain into the cove max depth...

    Why Should I Join NAUI?

Mirrors my reason as well to not do my DM although suggested numerous times. I was responsible for others my whole adult life, I prefer to not do it while diving or have the liability as a professional.

Are the various Ships-to-Reefs organizations dead?

Glad it is being looked after finally but sad that it wasn't sunk as a reef/dive attraction.

Are the various Ships-to-Reefs organizations dead?

Yeah, I think that's the one, haven't heard much about it recently.

Are the various Ships-to-Reefs organizations dead?

I heard they are trying to get another one done in Nova Scotia Canada but don't have much for details.

    Which reg set?

    Dive Rite, hands down.

Glad you got it worked out, to bad you had that experience though.

Anyone here that has tried out SUBEA brand by decathlon or has seen its BCD firsthand?

I got the nylon thickness from the description, which listed "400d". If they rebrand then are they getting industry seconds or a comparable product and can you cost compare to the original manufacturer? As you stated it is not a known brand in North America so yes we will compare it to what we...

Anyone here that has tried out SUBEA brand by decathlon or has seen its BCD firsthand?

Never heard of this brand, the pictures show a lower end BCD; lite materials, a lot of plastic, thin nylon. I've not heard of this company or the predecessor "Tribord". What are your other options for BCDs in your budget range?
