    Wing Cover Repair

The same exact thing happened to my wife's Mares XR wing just about the first time she inflated it at the surface in Bonaire. Mares agreed to replace under warranty (which took about 2 months after we returned it) but I had to "MacGyver" repair the cover to get her through the vacation week and...

    Scubapro go,sport fins?

I bought these fins for warm water travel diving with low top booties, but they are now my go-to fins for local cold water diving, as described by drrich2. If your feet tend to sink, you will like them.

Cayucos / Morro Bay buddy / DM April 5-8?

In the bay, the tides are very critical because the currents can be swift and once it shifts back out to sea it brings all the bay silt with it. We usually shoot for being in the water at least 1 hour before high tide at Target Rock and I have had 20'+ of viz once at 2 hrs before high tide, but...

Cayucos / Morro Bay buddy / DM April 5-8?

Set your expectations low and you will have a great time. I dive there all the time and you just need to prepared for 5' - 10' visibility. Anthony knows this area very well, so I think he will get you into the best diving conditions possible. Wish I could join you, but weekdays are tough...

    Playa Del Carmen help ASAP

We had a great experience with Leif, one of the owners of Coconut Divers in Cancun, who works out of Playa del Carmen. He was a great diver and really nice guy. We dove with him pre-Covid, but he was well established in the area with a family for about 20 years.

    Covid surging in Bonaire

We just traveled to Bonaire over Thanksgiving on American with the Abbott ID Now tests and had no problem. In fact, I had the same email confirmation from Bonaire Health in hand. There is so much misinformation out there, or rather misuse of terminology, that you really don't know what to...

    Current Water Temps

We just got back...it was 83/84 on every dive, 40' to 85'. I was warm in a 3mm and also fine in a rash guard and trunks for a couple of morning dives. We also met people who thought they were going to dive all week without wetsuits and they ended up purchasing 2-3mm wetsuits on the second day.

Trip Report Bonaire: Den Laman and Dive Friends, October 20-November 3, 2021

As if we weren't already excited about checking into the Parrotfish this Saturday (assuming we clear all entry testing hurdles later this week )... thanks so much for the detailed trip report @scubadada!

Solo diver looking for buddy (or join a group) Nov 22nd to Dec 6th

I am reluctant to make any firm plans this far out because I have had to move this trip 3 times over the past 18 months due to airline issues, but we plan on being there during that time and would be glad to meet up with you to dive sometime during the week of the 22nd. We will be staying up...

Trip Report Captain Don’s Habitat Sept 4th - Sept 11th

On our last trip we stayed at Buddy and ventured over to Captain Don's for a change of scenery a couple of times and.we received the same chilly reception and lack of service for both evening cocktails in the bar and an evening meal and see no reason to visit that place again unless we heard...

    2021 Bonaire roll call

I found another post that answered my questions directly from Bonaire's health agency so I will repost here to close the loop on my question...Bonaire will accept a "rapid molecular test," such as Abbott Labs' ID NOW test for entry and I have found places in my town, like others have mentioned...

Dive computer - pull out battery between dive outings?

FYI - I also dive the i300 and I seem to get 1-2 years out of the battery diving about 50 times per year. Here is what the manual says about the little low battery icon that will appear near the upper left of the screen when you have a low battery: LOW BATTERY DURING A DIVE Warning Level • The...

    2021 Bonaire roll call

Does anyone have experience with the 48 hour prior to departure testing requirement in the context of travel spanning two days, eg, we are scheduled to leave LA on Friday afternoon and arrive in Miami after midnight and then depart for Bonaire in the morning and arrive Saturday afternoon? I'm...

Airline Prices to Bonaire - ouch

Being personally affected by this situation, I'll chime in. We had tickets for a year ago on United which were obviously cancelled by United and credited back to me, we moved our hotel reservations out to later this year, but re-purchasing my tickets is looking like it will cost 3X the airfare...

    How to find dive buddies

I think your quantity of dive buddies will be a direct corollary to how enthusiastic you are about diving once certified and how frequently you dive. There are several Facebook in LA that dive nearly every weekend in Redondo, Malibu, Laguna or over in Catalina (either by boat or ferry). If you...

Have you tested positive for COVID?

Not me personally, but my best friend got it in mid November from his wife who is a doctor and brought it home from the hospital. I wouldn't say he is in the best shape or health (slightly overweight and diabetes and both over 50) and he had to do a couple of days in the hospital, but they are...

2 JAN 2021 tickets to Bonaire Cancelled

United is rolling their cancellations forward... cancelled our outbound flights for Jan 16 through Newark. I was certainly prepared to test and go, but I'm glad they didn't drag it out to the last minute so I can plan something else closer to home and don't lose any deposits.

    Exciting Giant Sea Bass news!

They are are usually in the 400-700 pound range and by the time they get that big they have probably been swimming around for well over 30 years. I'm 6', 215 and the one that circled me a few months ago dwarfed me and was easily 7'+ long and about 3' tall at the dorsal...I'd guess 5-600#. The...

    Exciting Giant Sea Bass news!

Very cool... my friend got the one at Anacapa that had been previously spotted at Casino Point.. it had a very identifiable notch in its fin. These gentle giants are so amazing to see up close. I had one circle me on my safety stop at Santa Cruz Island and I was just in awe of how big the fish...
