Most (not all, but most) dry suit divers in Puget Sound stay warm enough to make it enjoyable. However, there are a few that I have seen that use battery powered electric thermals for that little extra warmth. Might be worth doing some research.
A "Hammerhead" in Puget Sound Washington. My dive buddy and I can only guess that it once had a wooden handle and the only part of hammer that was left was the head.
Don't underestimate the kid. My 16 yr old daughter did her entire training and got certified in the cold and murky Puget Sound (Washington) waters with a wetsuit. One week later we we're diving in Australia and we had absolutely no problem with the dives. You can learn to dive anywhere.

Looking at your experience vs mine and I ask myself, do I want to argue this with you? HELL NO, I would lose. However, I do question it.

If you buy the gear and you fail hydro, you are out the cost of the gear AND the hydro. Can you offer to pay for the hydro first and then buy if they pass? This way you only risk the cost of the hydro (which you will be out that money anyways)
I'm just a simple OW diver with about 60 dives in the murky cold Puget Sound waters of Washington. Went on a club dive once and was buddied up with a guy that had his "instructor" certs. OMG, what a nightmare. The guy had never wore a drysuit before and had no idea how to use it. Our dive was to...
Ditto with the headstrap factor ... actually, my mask has a built-in feature to mount the housing. Might not be the best pictures but I can just enjoy the dive.
