    Looking for a Specific Knife

I'm looking for a dive knife where the sheath is of the style with a "button" release and can be attached to a standard 2" webbing. Additionally, not too big, so in the mid-size range, say approximately 4" blade. Best example I can provide is the ScubaPro Mako, but I don't think it attaches to a...

    Pulse Ox Sensors in Diving

Good points, thanks. And the antenna analogy is good for me since I design them for a living, :). Duke seems to have used a head sensor, and I believe they performed the experiments in a chamber; i.e., not underwater.

    Pulse Ox Sensors in Diving

Hello, Let's try this here with regard to rebreathers (CCR) although I must admit my personal motivation is for freediving. Let's just generalize the reason for wanting to use a Pulse Ox underwater in order to prevent of hypoxia. I have found a number of medical articles on this subject...

    Vent....

I can highly sympathize with this. Was in West Palm Beach last week for some snorkeling and diving. Only thing I got to do was swim in the bacteria-filled "water" surrounding Phil Foster Park.

    Diving a Florida Pier?

I'm a scuba diver and a freediver, so I would be fine with either one really.

    Diving a Florida Pier?

Yeah, I agree regarding the fishing aspect. I'm headed to Blue Heron in a few weeks!

    Diving a Florida Pier?

Are there any where diving or snorkeling is actually allowed? It's unequivocally: STAY 300' AWAY! These are a hotbed for marine life as is indicated by the live transmission below, or the article a few months back in the SCUBA magazine regarding diving Ft. Lauderdale's pier, for example...

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

Yes, an MRI was performed where they found moderate facet arthropathy in the L4-L5 region and slight bulging near L4. Later it was revealed my hip was misaligned and we have been working on that through physical therapy. I am curious now if a lower back problem can affect the hands in this way...

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

Update: I tried breathing from the tank on the surface, in my basement to be exact. I'm pretty sure I could feel the same effect coming on, but I beat it back with focused, measured breathing. This experiment lasted 35 mins. Later this week, I'm going to repeat the experiment but for longer, in...

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

Pretty definitively external, near the surface of the skin.

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

Yes, Today it occured in the bathtub with only tank and regs. At this point i would have to guess it would even occur out of the water. Sounds crazy but in the tub i must have been around only 1 ft under.

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

All of the diving I have done of late has been pool bound. I used to dive cold and weighted years ago, but have decided going forward to focus solely on warm water diving. I have a steel backplate and have been diving a 3 mm and no weights in the pool. At times I have removed the 3 mm in order...

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

I really appreciate the feedback. This was my first thought months ago during the initial experience. I gained more confidence in this potential cause after I did something very stupid upon returning home from the pool visit: I intentionally hyperventilated (topside) for a few minutes, which did...

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

Roger that and Thank you. And let me just make this clear for the thread going forward: doctors will be the next step.

Medical Condition Keeping Me Out of the Water

Background: I have about 100 dives under my belt, but mostly from about 10 years ago. I started back up last year by building my first BP/W rig, piece by piece. It's completed and I have been experimenting in the pool. But. Unfortunately the first time diving in the pool, I experienced a...

    US Navy Dive School Regs

Just curious, can someone identify the regs used by the US Navy Dive School in this video? Look a lot like ScubaPro 109 knockoffs to me, but I know nothing about what they use. Skip to 2:02 in video for quick reference.

    A Case for Spare Air

Interesting account I have to share. Just now, I was watching a YouTube channel on fish aquariums and they took a trip to a Canadian aquarium to check out the exhibits. At some point in the video they caught a diver in the scene cleaning tanks by himself, and as it would happen ... yep, you...

    A Case for Spare Air

Care to elaborate? I believe that goes for most of us. Regardless, plan to, thanks. My past instruction is adequate in general for the diving I plan to do and I'm not going to debate it, but it can only help my re-entry and regular instruction is default for me.
