Realized that I had a rebuild kit laying around, so went ahead and cleaned the G250 up, and put her back together .. no exciting action shots, and fortunately no stabbing myself with o-ring picks.
Other D350 & Mk10 came in .... Looks impressively clean, though the depth gauge looks like it...
Curiosity got the better of me, so I cracked open the G250 to see what poppet it had - was happy to see that it already had the balanced unit.
Found a little more corrosion inside than I expected, so it will be taking a long trip to the spa (acid bath).
Work load is simmering down a bit, so a little spare time on eBay resulted in my purchasing a Mk20 w/ G250 and two consoles, as well as a Mk10 w/G250 and a console.
The G250 combo showed up today. Looks to be a post recall unit (two vents) and in pretty decent shape. Hooked it up to air, and...
Right now the Micro is at the top of my list, though the Reefmaster looks interesting, just suffers from availability.
If I were to go outside the Sealife matrix, I would probably look at the Nikon W300 (with no housing for at least 2-3years) or the Olympus with a housing.
I went through the...
Magnus - what type of compact did you end up with.
Looking at the rest of the Sealife product portfolio, what are the thoughts on the Reefmaster 4k?
Still evaluating my son -- like everybody points, each kid is different.. When I talked to him about it, he still seemed hip to get one.
You bring up a good point. Though he shoots Olympic style rifle, and other advanced stuff, he is still just a kid. I will have to think how I was at age 13/14 when I first got into diving, and consider what would be safe... He currently has a dozen dives under his belt, so this might be a bit soon.
From what I see the Micro 2.0 would be a good camera for a 13yr old who has recently gotten into diving. That said I welcome other suggestion in the same price range ($500-600), even if from another vendor. At this point I will hold off on a strobe, until he obviously shows interest in lugging...
New diaphragm cover for the 109 came in today... Seems a hair lower in height than the old, but is more supple... Installed and retuned .. at this point the only thing this one is missing is the S-Poppet , but I think I will just hold out for a very clean late model balanced adjustable ( in case...
Decided for the Pre-Dive switch to see if I can make a form out of Delrin, to let the o-ring take a set.. Have a scrap of 3/4" square stock coming my way, that I will trim down to match the dimensions.. Hoping a little heat/cold soak on the form for a few days will allow the o-ring to take a...
Finished rebuilding D400 #2... All went fine there - even rebuilt the poppet (little more info on that thread). Next on my D series builds will be the 350.
Ordered a reproduction purge cover from VDH for my 109 - hoping that might give a few more percentage points of performance (it already has...
Kupu - I have been pushing the purge button while doing adjustments to the poppet cap/spring - by doing so, the seat should be off the orifice.
Seeing your update reminded me that it has about time I put together D400 #2 , so I went ahead and did that this evening. At first I tried to use a...
With D400 #1 together, I decided to go ahead and take apart D400 #2. Even with warm/soapy water bath the purge cover was a much bigger bear to take off on this one - I was nervous at times that I would break something (same for the lever adjustment screw - she had taken a real set). This one...
Knob ended up being broken off... Hydro place released the pressure as part of their inspection, and we used a valve that I saved from a pre-90 tank in its place.
couv - Thanks.. none of my other Mk10s had any boot, so I just assumed it was the SPEC. I haven't packed any with 111 so far (though one did seem like has at least partially packed when I got it). I have ordered some 111 in a tube, and will take this one apart again to pack it up (and probably...
It survived the night being pressurized, so I went ahead and cleaned up the rubber purge cover with some Marine Aerospace 303 UV protector (hopefully that will keep it from always leaving black marks on my hand after handling), soaked it in warm soapy water, and reassembled.
Verified that the...
Mail call this week brought the McMaster order as well as the poppet seats from VDH (though I will probably put them in the spare parts selection, while whole poppets can be sourced).
My son's D350 was originally equipped with a plastic poppet, which came back with it when I had it serviced...
Finally put the quasi Mk10+ back together.. It is running standard Mk10 HP seat now, has the yoke knob from a regular Mk10, and full VDH o-ring set. I opted to leave the SPEC boot off, so it could be more easily rinsed etc. In the end this will probably be a 1st stage that I leave on my boat -...
