Similarly, are there any GUE divers on Maui who'd be open to a new dive buddy? I just moved here last month after completing my Fundies course and would love to find some GUE divers to buddy with.
I went from Maui to Kona in January of this year, and got tested through Sonic Healthcare / Clinical Labs. I think I made the appointment through Sonic, but the facility is shared with Clinical Labs or they're the same organization.
Found a small handheld dive light that looks very new in the shallows by the wall around mid-morning on Sunday 3/28. If you can give me some identifying info about it, I can try to leave it at a local dive shop or find a way to get it back to you.
Same issue after ~30 dives on mine. My LDS sent it in for warranty about 2 weeks ago but I haven't heard back yet.
One of the bolts on mine was slightly off-perpendicular from the start, which may have contributed to the issue. Both became loose though.
The Scubapro FS-2 compass boot for wrist-mount (straps) seems to come with 4 nice holes for easy conversion to bungee-mount. What's the recommended way of removing the wrist straps? I don't see it mentioned in the manual.
Yes! They're life-changing. In a small but positive way. Try several brands or models because there can be a huge difference in quality and personal fit.
So important! I try to remember that the cost of daily lenses is <$2 each (for my pretty high quality ones), and any time a contact lens...
This seems to be key. I wouldn't go so far as to say they're categorically unsafe, but there are definitely considerations to diving thick wetsuits that weren't thoroughly discussed or understood by me in the OW class that I took. Practically speaking, these sorts of 7mm + 7mm wetsuits are the...
Thanks for all the info! I’m pretty sure neither I nor my buddy cranked it open hard, but since it was a rental tank I don’t know what condition the internals were in.
Been thinking about getting my own tanks for a bit, but haven’t pulled the trigger on that yet. Isn’t that how divers measure a...
Just a smidge seems reasonable (and reasonably distant from the 1/4 turn argument?). Would it help avoid issues like this and/or being unable to shut the valve underwater in exigent circumstances?
Bleeding it dry was what I did. I was curious if there were other options.
Even after it was empty the valve didn't budge, but after sitting in the sun for 5-10 minutes (it was a sunny and warm day) it turned easily.
Went diving last weekend. Woohoo! Surfaced with ~500 psi in my rented AL80 after my first dive and couldn't get the tank valve to budge. What would you do if this happened to you?
The one thing I'd consider changing is using a lighter aluminum bp (mine's 2# I believe) instead of the ss.
It's nice to be able to use your own gear vs rentals, and I haven't had any problems with my feet being too warm in my cold water boots (5 or 6 mm) even in tropical diving. If you love...
I’ve had no trouble parking on Cannery Row near McAbee the couple times I’ve been there ~9am on Saturdays. There seem to be a public garage and lot nearby as well. Don’t park in the El Torito lot though.
If your trouble has anything to do with the zipper flap getting caught in the zipper, I flex my shoulders back to give it a bit of room to fall in behind the zipper when I'm zipping up. And I pull the zipper pull as much straight up and a little out behind me as I can manage. Seems to work...
