6" or 9" HP hose for transmitter

0 inch I mount my Transmitter directly to the 1st stage with no hose. IMHO, the additional hose just adds more failure points unnecessarily. I'm not sure, but I suspect most people add the short hose to make it obvious the Transmitter is NOT the tank valve. More than once I've had someone try...

    Heated Wear

@in too deep Interesting idea, and I thought (like you) the danger is not being able to disable if something goes wrong. Using an external power source make this choice just as good as 'official heated dive gear'. I'm following, please post back how the system worked for you.

Current state of the Union on heated undies?

@BFRedrocks I thinking of getting the flex 2.0, any chance you could share how much lead you used with BZ400 VS Flex 2.0?

    Closed ScubaPro Jet Fins XL

I'm interested in these because I just rented a pair (XL JetFin) over the weekend to dive with my drysuit. The fit was perfect and the added weight in the feet was helpful. Is the tape on the fin backside permanent? Are they still available?

    Undergarment buoyancy

In the never-ending quest to find the best undergarment, I've stumbled across the new Mares UltraSkin. Their website says it can be used with a wetsuit or drysuit. I bought a vest for use under my wetsuit on a LOB trip and it worked great. Back in the cold waters of Monterey, I tried the vest...

    Undergarment buoyancy

Let's have it @Storker . I'm asking the question for selfish reasons, but hopefully others can also benefit from your advice, what works best and why. Keep in mind the question 'low buoyancy and warm undergarment combinations'? You have the floor. :)

    Undergarment buoyancy

Right now I'm just using cotton thermals. Looking to upgrade, to forth element xerotherm or Bare ultra warmth. Or something else, could be wool. Or you pick the best undergarment combination. My only request is low buoyancy. Notice I said nothing about cost. Like most folks (maybe all) on...

    Undergarment buoyancy

That's about what I learned so far. More air (thicker) = warmer = more buoyancy = more lead. Exception is there appears to be consensus that adding a wicking base layer adds warmth without much if any buoyancy. How much warmth is up for debate.

    Undergarment buoyancy

I have tried the SB in the ocean, it was OK but I would like a bit warmer. Without biasing my Scuba Board buddies, I was kinda looking for recommendations like add a base layer to SB. Right now I'm looking at xerotherm and Bare cellulient and the 'magic properties' they have to keep you warm...

    Undergarment buoyancy

What is the best low buoyancy drysuit undergarment? My new Santi BZ400 is plenty warm, but I need an extra 14lbs to get under. I tested it in pool with all equipment being exactly the same, and a Bare SB took 24lbs vs the Santi BZ400 at 38lbs. I can give up some warmth, and upgrade other gear...

Updated SCUBA tank specifications list -- in PDF and spreadsheet

@tmassey thanks for putting the list together. Well done, and just what I needed. Because someone just offered me some Worthington steel 100. Based on the list these look like pretty good tanks, for buoyancy and out if water weight. At $250 each, I think I'll take them. Anyone disagree...

How to Load Smurf Gloves (SHOWA 660, 620, 720) on KUBI Rings

Thanks @Deep South Divers and Steve Aaen, super helpful. I mounted the 720s per kubi instruction and they leaked on my dive last Saturday. These institutions seem obvious now the we have pictures. Well done.

Dive Master Training, Swim Test went back in class

Just in case it helps someone. I'm currently doing the divemaster with PADI. I'm not the best swimmer, and just missed getting 3 points on the 400 yard swim by 15 seconds. 10:15. Tread water for 15min, hands out for last 2min was easy, got 5 points. 800 yard MSF (mask, snorkel, fins). A...

    Backplate Wing webbing?

Thanks. You're probably correct, I should try it and then change if needed. @rongoodman said the same, and I'm most likely over analyzing it. In my rescue class I had to remove everyone's gear while giving rescue breaths. We repeated this multiple times, and I have to do it solo for the DM...

    Backplate Wing webbing?

What's the standard location for a cutting device? Either I forgot or this was not covered during my rescue class. Again I'm not trying to challenge the norm on this, just trying to understand why. I would like a little more than there are reasons, before I buy a BPW setup. The webbing on...

    Backplate Wing webbing?

Thanks for the tips. I still think having a quick release would be a must have by the DIR crowd. Seems a bit odd to skip a quick release because it might fail, but in an emergency have no problem taking the time to find a cutting device and then cut the patient out. The heart of my...
