I need a scatterbrain-proof system. Any one have their own?

Even with fixed rituals, steps can be forgotten. I've got a ritual where after I slip into my rig and clip the chest and hip buckles of the BCD, I then slip the pony reg necklace over my head. Except for when I forgot that particular step in my ritual and I end up dragging my pony reg around...

I need a scatterbrain-proof system. Any one have their own?

Even though the "quarter turn back" of the tank valve is a holdover with no real purpose nowadays, there is one advantage that I've read about. If the valve is left full open, and it's a bit tight, the DM or whoever is checking the valve might not know it's open because when they start to twist...

I need a scatterbrain-proof system. Any one have their own?

I'm picturing the guy ready to splash off the dive boat, filled with about 20 other divers, all geared up, and one pretty secretary type with the black eyeglass frames, the smart looking blouse and dress, whose got the clipboard in her hands and is rattling off each piece of gear while he says...

You going to carry it with you on the boat and on shore dives?

I need a scatterbrain-proof system. Any one have their own?

There are divers who have forgotten gear and divers who are going to forget gear. There are divers who have lost gear at depth (due to unclipping, dropping, broken retractor, etc) and those divers who are going to lose gear during a dive. A pony necklace is a big piece of tubular rubber that...

I need a scatterbrain-proof system. Any one have their own?

Never ever? I once left a pair of fins on the dive boat and didn't realize it until I showed up the following morning and the crew were holding up my fins waiting for their rightful owner to show up. I once jumped in the water without weight pockets and without gloves on a cold water dive...

Scuba diving is a very gear intensive sport. There's a lot of stuff to remember and one small omission can result in a lost dive or a significant safety issue. It might not be the sport for you.

    Pull Dumps — lose them

If the story in this thread was about a pull dump causing a BCD failure and included enough documented cases to make it an issue, that would be one thing. But a panicked diver improperly using their gear as a reason to never use that particular feature? I like the pull dump on my Seaquest...

Do I really need an expensive dive computer??

I always thought the same thing. Then I finally bought the Oceanic USB cable and it's made it so much easier to log my dives on Subsurface digital logbook (enters a lot of the data so I don't have to do it manually), and it's really neat to see the dive profile and because it's air integrated it...

    Prescription Mask Advice

You're equating fear of putting a contact lens in your eye with... the flu or cancer? You can't possibly be serious. As far as Kconus goes, contact lenses often provide better vision than eyeglasses because they create a new refractive surface for the eye which compensates for the irregular...

Do I really need an expensive dive computer??

I can't go 15 minutes without checking FB or recent ScubaBoard posts. I get so anxious I cannot enjoy the underwater world and all it's inhabitants.

Theft or gear mix-up on liveaboards?

Really? It has always been my understanding that if something goes missing from your luggage you can file a claim with TSA, the airline, your homeowners insurance, or travel insurance (if you have it).

Theft or gear mix-up on liveaboards?

You have two sets of gear, one really good and one not so good for vacation diving because you don't trust airlines? And you dive with the crappier gear when you travel? Two comments- 1) If the airline loses it, you file a claim and you get reimbursed and buy new gear and 2) keep all the...

    Prescription Mask Advice

It's not that you can't, it's that you won't take the necessary steps to get past an irrational fear. I bet you had trouble learning to swallow pills too, didn't you? No different than someone who "can't" drive across a bridge or be in a confined space or high places. If you give into it and...

Thanks, had to think about what you wrote but I get it now. And no, not an instructor, just a regular diver here.
