    Devil's Den

Please educate us. Is there a map of sites? Or, you just need to be local to know? I knew of a few in the Panhandle but, they've closed gates to divers.

    Devil's Den

Thank you for input on Blue Grotto. Did not make there this trip. But, next time. Question: Is Blue Grotto like Devil's Den? Or better?

    Devil's Den

The dive shop folks did not mention anything about water level so I'm guessing normal. We went down to one of the gated sections. About 40'. Laughed at how it was fenced off but, a determined cave diver could take off their tank and slip through.

    Rainbow River

Recently did the famed Rainbow River drift dive. Major fun! Some stretches reminded me of the currents at Playacar Reef in Cozumel. Lots of marine life. There were many sections where the springs boil up through the sand. Several large and small vents releasing warm water. Some grass regions...

    Devil's Den

Just completed trip to Devil's Den. Diving a cenote was fun. Knowing how old it is was cool. Many crevices to explore. A few fish, a turtle and lots of heavy textured large rocks. Dove with a shorty 3mil and was rather chilled in the 72* water. (I tend to not be cold.) Be sure to take a light...

When to call a dive... a question of limits.

I've always taught myself and others best to call off diving and live than to cave to peer pressure and die; or other bad things.

I am thinking beach Gulf side. They remind me of concrete mushrooms.

    Destin v Pensacola

Thanks bunches! Yes, PCB St. Andrews jetties are very nice. Plan to do the Navarre Sanctuary. Boat dive something on a day. That's why asking. Not 100% sold on a wreck. But, not wanting too long of a boat ride.

    Princeton Tec - Kudos!

I too have recently bought a DOA. I do like the PT. Feels good in the hand. Easy to find in BCD pocket. Have used them since the 80s.. hope they're not getting Shotty. BTW, I recently ran across the 4 D cell Toshiba dive torch. Still good.

    Destin v Pcola

been discussed but can't find older threads. So... If not doing the Big O, which location (of these two only) do you groove on and why? Will be RVing in Navarre which is about 50/50 either way. Thinking of Orikany, but many say they got weathered out. Thinking of not putting diver eggs in one...

    Halogen v LED

Recently posted a thread looking to replace my trusty dive torch from the 80s. Great replies. I even bought an LED based on them. But, still not happy. In the adage "You can't keep a good librarian down", I began an even more earnest search. I found the Toshiba, 4 D cell, halogen light; same...

Are the majority of dive shops bad?

All, no. But many can be snooty. Fortunately, Divers Supply, a national online retailer, is close enough to be one of my fave dive shop stops while visiting ATL. Just keep looking until you find your groove.

Looking for an underwater torch light

Yes. It will still light up. Despite its age.

Looking for an underwater torch light

The Underwater Kinetics SL4 eLED is the only LED for now. It's OK for a pocket light. For night diving, no. It is not even close to a being a primary. Recently got a Princeton Tec Sector 5 incandescent. Decent little scoop/flood. But again, no real distance. I want to see far off. Light up the...

Looking for an underwater torch light

Back in the mid 80s to mid 90s, I had this foot long+, 4 D cell, big, blue incandescent dive light. That thing was a torch. It wasn't a scoop or flood light style. You could light up a path far off. My dive buddies always Stayed behind me. It was blinding! Alas, the reflective backing has...

Want to Dive...Can't Find Dive Buddy...Etiquette on Third Wheel-ing it?

I find most divers accepting and understanding to tag along. I mean, heck fire, you’re not asking for a life long commitment; you're just out to dive. I know I’m about to cause a big stink with others but, if you’re advanced, and there’s no scuba police, why not dive on your own at this lake...

How old is too old to start a career in diving?

31 taint too old. However, the other items you toss into the desired results of the outcome of this equation do pose challenges. The dive shop owners often have family. But, I’ve seen a lot of dive shops come and go. Most instructors get a day job unless they also own a small shop, quarry...
