    IPO/IPE considerations

How much do divers need to know about IPO and the factors that contribute to it. Why even at quite advanced recreational SCUBA is so little taught about WOB and the effects of F = ma (Newtons second law) on lung stress.

Subnauta, a dive centre in Praia da rocha, Portugal, looked like it was going to survive Covid but it did not, ceasing trading a while ago. A pity as it was an excellent outfit and I intended to dive with them again Dees anyone know if another outfit has replaced them or is there another outfit...

    World best dive site?

https://puravidalanzarotediving.com/veril-de-fariones/ See above dive site and others in vicinity. I have been diving this area for several years now and am going again for 2 weeks in late January. I reckon it must be up there with the worlds best dive sites. What's anyone else's view?

    posing issues

Earlier this evening I posted a political article in what I assumed to be an "anything goes section" but it seems not and the article has been moved to the pub. I have tried to join the pub but it wont let me saying insufficient credits or something. Apologies for posting this in the wrong place...

    Madeira October 2020

Although I have not done much diving this year due to Covid, managed to get 10 days in Madeira in Mid October. See video in above link, I am the one with the all yellow tank, no hood and yellow / translucent Mares fins. Although not on video there were two large grouper and a large crab in the...

    Decompression Illness - varying susceptibility

Just been having a read of the recently published 2019 BSAC diving incident reports and in the decompression illness section there are many cases of DCI occurring during dives and circumstances that I and many others have exceeded frequently without DCI. A probable contributory factor of this...

What do you make of this?

I was on a dive a while ago as part of a group of strangers and we had been to about 25 meters or a little more, duration of dive would be about 40 to 45 minutes. At the end of the dive whilst I was around 15 to 20 m and rising slowly up the shot line a diver made what appeared to be an...

    Sunnto zoop novo strange behaviour

I bought my first zoop novo about 18 months ago and it was returned immediately because it was faulty - did not respond properly to mode button. Internet search reveled this is not an uncommon problem. Second zoop novo was better but not completely right. I was just on the verge of sending it...

    First cave dives

This thread has been closed as a result of this and several other posts downthread which advocate unsafe diving practices in violation of ScubaBoard's TOS. Please read the final post by @cerich here: First cave dives before returning to review this material. I have done some caverns and swim...

    Trilaminate or Neoprene drysuit

I know this question will have been asked before but as manufacturers of both materials claim continued improvement perhaps its time to update the discussion. In my limited experience the only downside to either material during a dive is the extra drag in currents from the rippled trilaminate.

    Dive guide communication problems

Recently I was on a guided dive in quite a large group with a guide I have never dived with before. The dive was to have a duration of 55 to 60 minutes and a max depth of 30m (just over 20 more likely, 23 actual)). Just over 1/2 way through the dive I felt I was using air a bit faster than I...

    Where my dad dived

BBC iPlayer - How to Build...a Nuclear Submarine - Audio Described Have a look at the above. Not a diving program, just a brief glance of divers helping fix a damaged dock gate. For me there was a bit of personal interest. This is where my dad was employed as a diver for a few years before WW2...

Why such a big step to technical diving?

My longest dive to date is 60 minutes under water and I don't in the foreseeable future expect to dive much longer than that. If I did want to do longer or deeper dives (with decent bottom time) I would have to log 100 dives and do technical diving or do CCR. CCR is expensive and I don't know...
