Please help me buy a tank!

Scuba.com and divegearexpress.com are great sources for Faber X7-100 and X7-120 (if you're tall) tanks. You can also check your LDS. Sometimes the tanks are a bit more expensive, but they frequently throw in a number of fills to sweeten the deal. The last tank I bought directly from my LDS...

Please help me buy a tank!

How tall are you? Pro valves are fine for DIN. Most of us DIN users in the US use them. DIN only valves, also called 300 BAR DIN, are not required. Worthington X7-100 are awesome tanks. $280 out of hydro seems high. I’d negotiate down at least the $50 or so hydro will cost. If you’re on the...

    Question SCUBA, the self-policing industry

Not sure where you are diving. I see people getting carded every time I dive in South FL. For some charters I (and everyone) get carded every trip. Now for fills I agree. I've never been carded and have not seen anyone get carded FOR RECREATIONAL fills. I believe carding for tech fills is...

Diving Quarrys in Ohio. What Wetsuit?

You get used to them. Just take them slow and use the railings for support. I've taken them wearing doubles many, many times. They also have setup tables on the lower level if you prefer to gear up down closer to the water. I've done hundreds of dives at Gilboa. I dive saltwater these days...

    Question SCUBA, the self-policing industry

I'll respectfully disagree ... strongly as well. In good spirits. What are you doing underwater if you're not diving, free or scuba?

    Question SCUBA, the self-policing industry

The certifications exist to protect businesses that rent/sell gear, offer fills, run charter boats, etc. They don't exist primarily for the diver. They are not a legal requirement. So I believe we are violently agreeing.

    Question SCUBA, the self-policing industry

There are laws in Florida (and many other states) requiring the use of dive flags while diving be it scuba or free diving. There are also laws, most of them local, regarding when you can shore dive at certain parks such as Phil Foster Park in Riviera Beach. Those are laws that, to an extent...

    Question SCUBA, the self-policing industry

There are plenty of "adventure hobbies" that are treated just like scuba in the US. Skateboarding, kite boarding, rock climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, etc. Some locations have laws & regulations as to where and sometimes how they are conducted, but the hobby itself is not regulated...

Diving Quarrys in Ohio. What Wetsuit?

Well as with anything in diving, you do need to learn how to use one! They are not that hard to learn to dive. A good mentor is all you need. For cold water diving, there is absolutely no better investment. I spent the first 12 years of my diving life in the Midwest. No piece of equipment...

Diving Quarrys in Ohio. What Wetsuit?

Be careful. You do much diving at Gilboa and White Star and before you know it, you'll be buying your first drysuit.

New to board looking for good dives near Naples Florda.

I live just north of you in Bonita Springs. +1 for Scuba Marco. They are the only ones doing consistent local diving. They own their own small boat. Local shore diving? Doesn't exist. If you find any, let me know. Local snorkeling perhaps at Delnor-Wiggins State Park? I do just about all...

    Dive Medicals

So you're saying a significant percentage of us are right. Kidding!! To put another way, most of us aren't swayed by the attempt to argue that making them mandatory would help dive safety in any meaningful way.

    AI transmitter "storing"

No need. If it is stored in a reg bag it is as safe and secure as if it were removed and stored in its own case. I’d just leave it on the reg. That’s what I do with my 4 transmitters and 4 reg sets. And hope you heal up quickly!

    Long hose for aqualung legend

I assume you mean sensitivity? But no, it doesn’t. The first stage is going to deliver the same IP regardless of whether it’s on a 20 inch, 36 inch, 5 foot, or 7 foot hose. They are simply wrong.

    Long hose for aqualung legend

LOL. Complete BS. I have dived a long-hose with my Legends for close to 20 years. AL does not require any particular hose length. No clue where shops come up with nonsense like this?!

where would you live if you couldnt dive anywhere else

Off is nasty stuff, especially on dive gear! We live in noseeum land (Southwest FL). We use this religiously. It works like a charm.

    Diving the Keys' Molasses Reef

I enjoyed that. Thank you! I am currently recovering from spinal surgery and will be dry for 2-3 months, so I really enjoyed diving vicariously through your video!
