As someone who was diving in Belize from a live aboard, I wonder what went wrong here. Diving in Belize is quite easy when compared to other places so this accident makes me wonder. I think the boat captain trying to safe her by holding her hand points to the fact that either something went...
It seems that the least experienced diver was the last to be left in the water when she should have been the first to leave the water safely. According to PADI within a buddy team the higher qualified diver is responsible for the less qualified diver. I think that rule was broken in this case...
I don't know what the visibility was, but I've done that dive site and there is usually a strong current there. Maybe this current pushed the diver against the coral and then the accident happened.
This is horrible. Every boat should set up a night watch to avoid such Desasters in the future. Actually I'm quite shocked that these people learned nothing from the Conception fire. My sincerest sympathies go out to the family of the victim.
Hi guys,
I am new to this board and this is my first post.
Actually I've been diving a lot in Coron either from a liveaboard or from a shop belonging to an American and it was always safe for me. I am a certified wreck diver.
Cheers, Kinasi
