Best scuba advice here on Scubaboard, as I was returning to diving after having stopped for over twenty years:
1-Backplate/wing
2-Long hose/necklace
3-Shearwater Perdix AI
I had my initial training with NASDS in the 90's and we were never required to remove and put back on our gear underwater, much less in mid-water.
I always wanted to ask but never bothered up till now: what would be the purpose of such an exercise ?
In what real-life situation would you even...
This is my perception also.

OTOH, I do believe that I have read somewhere (maybe on Scubaboard ?) that not all dive agencies/schools/shops/instructors teach proper trim and buoyancy to OW students.
Having a more forgiving equipment might give the students a head start ? Just...

They should have this knowledge from the very beginning, long...
Should and could OW courses be taught by all dive agencies to all novice students using a backplate and wing from the very start ? Pros and cons, apart from the obvious major economical impact on the companies that produce BC gear.
EDIT: "Should" in the context of my question implies that use...
Some GUE instructors apparently believe that if you want to dive with a single cylinder and a wetsuit, then you shouldn't be doing the GUE Fundamentals course ... which is very unfortunate ... :(
