    Info Is DAN Insurance worthwhile?

Sure, it could be. It could also be the call that results in someone dying instead of living. Listen.. I'm not saying that companies in the insurance business, with profits to consider, and risk vs. profit considerations will always make the choice that is 100% on the side of making their...

    Info Is DAN Insurance worthwhile?

Everything is a huge leap of assumptions at this point. Including your assumption about what DAN might have known or not known about some random transport service.... Do you disagree with that?

    Info Is DAN Insurance worthwhile?

I don't know that that's the case. I'm not a medical professional with training in Barotrauma or DCS and related complications, so I can't say what such a person would say is the appropriate level of support and available equipment to transport someone with such a potential problem. Are you? Can...

    Info Is DAN Insurance worthwhile?

Getting divers to the appropriate medical care, using the appropriate means, in a rapid manner =/= paying for the closest people who are somewhat qualified to hopefully get the job done fairly adequately if no complications arise in lieu of taking the time to do it right. Having the right...

    Info Is DAN Insurance worthwhile?

DAN said they couldn't arrange it that quickly, not that it couldn't be done. Did Woody's plane have everything that was needed per DAN's standards (likely established with lawyers and Doctor's discussing risks etc.), or just what he felt was needed? Did DAN simply not have a contract or...

    Info Is DAN Insurance worthwhile?

Here's some problems I have with Woody and Gus's story-telling here (and yes, they are telling a story, and infusing their opinions into everything from my opinion of the video): 1. They appear to be idiots. Some of the things they complained about included: A. Being asked to take 3 minutes to...

    Review Apprentice Cave Course Review

TDI Intro to cave and NSS-CDS Apprentice Cave courses cover pretty much the same things. In fact, when I did Apprentice Cave I got certified for both as the standards for both were met (and I decided to pay for both cards in case someone somewhere didn't recognize one of them, in hindsight, that...

Not Feeling Well? New Hand signal.

Something is wrong is... well, covering both "I have a minor issue with my ear" as well as "I have big problem that isn't being out of air", and following it with a thumbs up signal clearly communicates "this is a significant problem and we need to go to the surface". Not sure why anything else...

Not Feeling Well? New Hand signal.

The Shaka sign (what you're describing) is used all over the place to mean "things are great" or similar. I've never heard anyone using that as a sign that something is wrong. In fact, I routinely use it to express that something on the dive was particularly great. I teach the WRSTC gesture for...

    Failed CESA in OW

Where did you find this PADI standard depth? While the eLearning discusses buoyant emergency ascents, it doesn't state a depth threshold currently and I haven't been able to find one (not in the eLearning, instructor manual, or guide to teaching anyway). The eLearning also states that you'd be...

Do all rebreathers require a bailout bottle on board ?

For me, it just depends on the situation. Backmount is definitely easier for boat dives or similar. In a cave, it depends on how open the cave will be. Something wide open I'd probably choose the backmount LP50s typically right now, but sidemount if I would be doing something with smaller passages.

Do all rebreathers require a bailout bottle on board ?

Some rebreathers don't require that you use a separate diluent bottle. I dive the Chest mount O2ptima, which is typically setup with an onboard O2 bottle and you use your full sized bailout as the diluent source. You still have to ensure you have an adequate amount of bailout gas, after...

Insulating layers: https://seaskin.co.uk/product-category/apparel/thermal-undersuits/ Base layers: https://seaskin.co.uk/product-category/apparel/seaskin-tech-base/ They'll make them custom sized for you as well. I ordered mine when I bought my drysuit.

    Deep 6 or MK19 Evo?

I own two brands of regulators, but I can service them both myself (HOG and Deep 6). Over the years, I've owned and/or dived with most of the major brands (including Scubapro) but have found that I don't find an advantage that matters to me from any of them over Deep 6. Couple that with the...

Recommended options on new rebreather (Optima CM)

My dive buddy is currently running the NERD as a monitor, and the Petrel 2 as the controller with no HUD. Slightly more work on assembly, but works fine. After getting some time on the unit, I think he's planning to drop the NERD completely and go to a standard HUD monitor and keep the Petrel 2...

Trip Report All Star Red Sea Liveaboard Trip Report Sept 2022

The guides were asked if we could do more than three dives during the day and the response was effectively "this is what we do" and nothing more. As such, I can only speculate on why they limited the diving to so little on the trip.

Trip Report All Star Red Sea Liveaboard Trip Report Sept 2022

My normal dive buddy and I have both done a number of liveaboard dive trips with All Star Liveaboard in the Bahamas and have been very happy with them, so sticking with that company seemed like a good idea when venturing to a new area. The value was also quite reasonable (based on what we could...
