Article stated he ran out of oxygen at 200ft... I'm sure it was the ppo2 of 14 that killed him...

Shearwater Perdix AI not seeing the transmitter

Take a paper clip and short the positive and negative connection points within the transmitter (with no installed battery of course) and try again.

    AI with doubles (non-overhead)

I exclusively use AI with my BM doubles. No different than running a single SPG. Either have the possibility of failing. With proper gas planning, a failure of either is not a big deal.

    New Teric and nitpicking

Having used the Perdix for a couple years now, I've found GTR to be generally inaccurate.

    New Teric and nitpicking

I've used my iPhoneX (OLED) GPS for all day long with static images. Leads me to believe burn-in is not the issue it once was.

    I Don't Understand Dive Shops

You mention the cost of OW training. Have you priced a 1 hour golf or ski lesson? Golf instructions make 10x what scuba instructors make yet no one bats an eye at paying $100 an hour for their time. If anything, scuba instruction is grossly underpriced.

Cost of each dive when starting

I do not believe scuba clubs exist in the US as they are structured in Europe. We have scuba “clubs”, though they are more about selling trips and meeting up at a quarry to dive and BBQ... they don’t really supply gear, provide training, etc.

    What log book to get?

I use a regular spriral bound notebook... at the end of the day, the logging your dives is a personal experience for you. Use whatever pleases you. there is no need to spend $$ on a "dive log". Anything that can be written on will do fine.

Bad attitudes about solo diving are still prevalent

Is there really an anti-cycling lobby? Is “big auto” really trying to stop people from riding bikes?

Bad attitudes about solo diving are still prevalent

Also, why are you looking at deco/experienced divers to dive with? Neither one of you will likely be fulfilled by the dive. I recommend finding someone with roughly the same dive plan to dive with.

Bad attitudes about solo diving are still prevalent

I certainly don’t mind diving with “newbies”, given they have the right expectations, though more often than not they are looking for a dive guide rather than a dive partner. I end up feeling like I’m guiding/instructing for free rather than diving with a buddy. Also to your point, I’m most...

First Regs: Deep 6 Signature, DGX Deep 6, Atomic B2, or something else?

I would recommend Atomic. Deep6 seems to always have supply issues, and it’s one excuse after another.

Riding a DSMB up from a deep wreck???

If you need a BCD, then it’s not a balanced rig. That was ,uhh, my point.

Riding a DSMB up from a deep wreck???

Given the gas we breath has weight, how to you compensate on the fly for the loss of negative buoyancy as you breath? At some point in anyone's dive, their rig is not going to be "balanced".

I greatly appreciate the polite, thought out reply to my question.

Riding a DSMB up from a deep wreck???

Can you please elaborate on why a drysuit is a poor backup for buoyancy?

Riding a DSMB up from a deep wreck???

I agree. I wouldn’t want to be diving below 200’ without a drysuit. 80° is fine dry, especially after a long, cold dive and little exertion during deco.

Riding a DSMB up from a deep wreck???

That is incorrect. It means deploying a lift bag to support an ascent line, not using a bag to make an ascent.

Riding a DSMB up from a deep wreck???

Ah, it’s Chatterton. Interesting. TDI does not advocate this, yet I assume he is issuing TDI Trimix certs to these students.
