Wanted Halcyon 9ah canister with battery

Thanks. I need the canister and the battery as a spare. If you’re willing to swap, I have a number of other canisters laying around.

Experienced eyes and too small guages!

One thing about prescription masks is that if you’re one of those who carry a spare, you need two or three. And then you can’t lend it to a buddy. I don’t get into the water without a spare mask in my pocket. That means if I have a problem with one before I jump in, I need to have a third. The...

Experienced eyes and too small guages!

My eye doctor gave me contacts that are 0.5 and 1.0 less strong. it’s like wearing 1.0 readers. I also bought bigger gauges and a large computer. Problem solved, for now.

INACTIVE DM now - is it worth becoming an instructor to work 3 months only per year?

Most professional insurance can be obtained as a “tail,” which is coverage only for prior acts, but nothing new. DAN offers it for instructors and DMs. I’m sure others do as well.

Halcyon Focus 2.0 — is the black square problem fixed?

Thanks. Was this a one-LED or four-LED model? In other words, does the four- have the same problem, or does only the four- have the problem?

Halcyon Focus 2.0 — is the black square problem fixed?

When the Halcyon Focus 2.0 came out, a lot of users reported a black square near the center of the beam. Does anyone who has (or recently returned?) on of these lights know whether the problem has been fixed?

Apex XTX50 and XTX40 - which first stage to choose?

If you get all 50s, you’ll be able to use them forever. It’s a small price difference when you view it over time. Your diving may change.

Cenotes—cavern diving. Safe for AOW diver?

I know you asked for non-cave divers, but as a cave diver, I took my wife on her first cavern dives (just before the pandemic), about ten dives after her certification. We hired a cave instructor who I’ve been cave diving with several times before to be the guide. So my wife was always between...

Apex XTX50 and XTX40 - which first stage to choose?

I bought a DST in 2000. It was my first reg for single-tank diving. When I moved to doubles, I bought another. Now it’s one of my stage regs for cave diving. Every few years, I have it serviced. The turret is helpful in single tanks and in stages. It’s also sealed. (I have a UST for my argon...

Is UTD still a "fringe" organization?

When did AG leave UTD, and why?

Help me understand the different BCD types.

Things don’t get a lot lighter or smaller than an aluminum backplate and wing—the smallest you can get. Whatever you buy, don’t let anybody convince you that you need anything larger than 20 lbs. That setup is ideal for vacation and travel. (Fins end up being heavier and larger.) There’s no...

BPW care: bolts, nuts, steel on steel care

By the way, I generally don’t rinse the gear if it’s been only in the aquifer.

BPW care: bolts, nuts, steel on steel care

You could, but don’t you want to disconnect everything to rinse it? I usually give the BP a quick rinse and the wing a good rinse, inside and out, then leave it full of air to dry. My harness might last a little longer if I were more careful with the BP. But they last so long anyway.

BPW care: bolts, nuts, steel on steel care

I didn’t mean any offense. I can tell you that the nylon screws on cave reels so commonly swelled after a short time under water that we quit using them. Maybe your nylon is different than mine.

BPW care: bolts, nuts, steel on steel care

Just take it apart and rinse. That’s it. The BP is nearly indestructible. I’ve had my primary BP for 20 years. I wouldn’t leave the wing nuts on it, because it’ll impede the rinse. The wing also needs a great rinse, of course, like any other scuba gear. Don’t do this. Nylon washers swell in...

Legal considerations for the Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

This is a myth. Merely creating a business entity and having it own the boat isn’t enough. Failing to observe corporate formalities is a pretty common cause of veil piercing, especially for small businesses. There are likely to be a lot of plaintiffs (families or insurance companies) testing it...

    Best GBR day-trip operators

Bump: We’re going to spend some time in Port Douglas. Any information about favored operators—nicer boats, fewer divers per boat—would be appreciated.
