#1 Rule In Scuba, Don't Hold Your.....

To piggy back the best way I know of to learn glottis control was practicing the valsalva maneuver during heavy squats. You have to learn how to clamp your glottis shut to effectively do it.

#1 Rule In Scuba, Don't Hold Your.....

Please don't misunderstand I'm not advocating for flippant violation of safety protocols, simply stating that ever rule learned in open water isn't really a rule and with proper execution many "unsafe" things are perfectly safe.

#1 Rule In Scuba, Don't Hold Your.....

Everything taught in OW is taught because OW divers are like challenged children who's only goal in life is to kill themselves. In reality every rule you learned: No Deco Limits, Air is toxic below 189ft, air is toxic above a ppo2 of 1.6, don't hold your breath, always dive with a buddy, don't...

How my tec road map went (all courses tdi ( except apprentice cave) because the tdi instructor near me is awesome, not because I favor tdi over any other agency) Advanced Nitrox - Intro to Cave - NSSCDS Apprentice Cave - Deco Procedures - Extended Range - Full Cave - Trimix - Advanced Trimix...

My farmer John / Shorty is obsolete. ??

Neoprene has actually come a really long way. Today's 5mm one piece are as warm as 15 years ago 7mm two piece. Modern insulating linings also help, many wetsuits now have a soft piling liner over the core, as opposed to only nylon. Wearing less neoprene will drastically reduce the weight you...

    Donation of primary or secondary?

I plan on donating my primary at all times, but I also carry a secondary that is in plain view and on a breakaway connection that a panicked diver can pull free if they need to.

The Rule of Fun: what do you do when you aren't having any?

I firmly believe that anyone can throw a thumbs up and that's it, no questions asked the dive is over. However if someone does throw a thumb I'm sure as going to have a sit down with them and discuss what happened, and how we can not end a dive early in the future. I want to understand what...

Just looking for a little info help

Most insurance agencies will require that someone offering a guided dive at least be a divemaster. The USCG currently has no regulations in place either way.

    New divers and buying equipment

The most expensive piece of gear is the piece you buy twice. I always recommend against "intro" or "beginner" gear packages for this reason. The best advice in this thread is to do your research before you buy your gear. There are credible reasons to choose almost any configuration of a scuba...

    Boat captain encouraging wreck penetration

Well most divers are adults and capable of making informed and adult decisions. If you feel comfortable hiding behind uniformed decisions and cert cards that's fine, but it isn't "horrifying" that people are presented an option to dive like big boys and big girls.

    Florida Dive Sites!

I go toothing all the time. You can swim out to the reef blocks and get your fill of lemon, sand tiger, bull, hammerhead, nurse, reef, and blacktip shark teeth. You gotta see the shape in the sand, they are all at the bottom or just barely covered in sand but the outline shape is still visible...

    ScubaBoard's Fallfest Megadive 2017

I absolutely can, just have some waivers what will need signing. Oh shoe sizes would help immensely too I'll bring an extra bcd or two, fins, reg sets, computers, lights. They will need to rent wetsuit / booties and have their own mask.

    Really dumb question.

Worst case scenario you'll have to buy a longer quick release system from scubapro for a tank strap.

Reg mouthpiece rubs gum due to pulling

Honestly roll cages, a seven point harness and Hans devices absolutely would prevent a majority of auto-wreck injuries. I'm advocating for safety you're advocating for danger. Stop and ask yourself why you're advocating against safe practices.
