Thank you for the additional details Ken. Very sad indeed to receive this confirmation.

Catalina Island (California) incident on Sunday, August 26, 2018

Apparently it did not even make the news. I was out in LA last weekend attending a paddleboard race from Avalon to Manhattan Beach and learned about it. We may need a local in the Los Angeles diving community to chime in to find out more.

Catalina Island (California) incident on Sunday, August 26, 2018

My wife bumped into some news with her scuba group about a gentleman who died after diving at Catalina Island on [Saturday - corrected from Sunday]. Here is all we know: A woman on the dive boat reported seeing a male diver surface. He was [initially] responsive, but later was unresponsive...

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

Thanks for the post Kathy. More details on the sedation: "Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said they had been lightly sedated. But the BBC has spoken to a number of people involved in the operation who say the boys were heavily sedated, and only semi-conscious. The logic for this would be the...

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

"These caves are home to a surprising abundance of wildlife, from birds and bats to rats, which can carry microbes, including rabies, Marburg virus and obscure fungal pathogens. As you go deeper, caves become lost worlds of venomous spiders, millipedes and scorpions. The ticks that feed on them...

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

I would actually prefer a good documentary with personal interviews of everyone involved. Any time there is a regular movie producer (e.g. Hollywood) they do tend to bend the events to grab as big of an audience as they can. Save that for the SciFi movies.

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

Remember the boys did not have rebreathers. Some of the rescue team did. Anybody without a rebreather would need to re-supply air in/out of the tunnel.

Just read that article Jay. Those pumps did fail at the end of the operation. Very close call indeed. The effort by the Aussies too...just fantastic.

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

I must say this series of events has the makings for one heck of a good movie. 1. Trapped soccer team (during the World Cup of all times!). None can swim or dive! 2. Expert cave divers from the UK fly in and locate the boys. 3. International team of experts assembled including divers...

Videos on vintage scuba material (Alec Pierce)

Love Alec's YouTube channel. With a very clever, funny wit he covers scuba topics in good detail. I'm not aware of any other channels that cover vintage stuff like him. He's been diving for many decades and has a lot of knowledge to share.

I believe these were the tanks shuttled in to pump more air/oxygen into the cave pockets. Amazing series of water pumps sucking out water and air lines pushing air in. Teamwork on the ground

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

I used to fly Marines and Seals around in the USMC. They go nowhere without an air transport service let me tell you. If you ask those in the trenches I can assure you they appreciate the support they get. Quite literally, their lives depend on it. Hopefully we'll see at least one good book & a...

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

Proud diver you are! Somebody has to feed the divers no? What about the millions of gallons of water being pumped out? Give credit where credit is due. I'm a former US Marine and have done many special ops. I can tell you there is a lot of credit to be had for this operation.

12 boys lost in flooded Thai cave

Agree...tremendous team effort and very resilient job by the divers. I'm also amazed by the sheer number of water pumps and drain holes drilled to reduce the water levels. I've never seen so many pumps in a rescue. And then you have all the extra volunteers for food, medical care, massages, etc...

Could not disagree more kotik. Elon's companies (SpaceX, Boring Co, Tesla) has some of the worlds most talented engineers. Read up. Many have invented some game changing technologies. e.g. 1. Self-landing rockets on ocean platform - worlds first. 2. Hyperloop high speed train - worlds first. 3...

4 boys out so far. Water levels are “perfect” according to the governor in charge. They can walk out most of the way. Meanwhile, Elon built a mini-rescue submarine out of left over rocket parts! Twitter
