    Scuba Gear for 7 footer

Yeah man, you're going to go custom on exposure protection. If you're worried about cost, get the cheapest custom drysuit you can get, but get it custom. Halcyon makes a long-pattern backplate which is all I use anymore. It'll be a little short on you, but it really doesn't matter that much...

Question How to choose between Under the Jungle (MX) or GUE Cave 1 (FL) ?

This should be a blast.... You're kinda asking different questions from different approaches. There are other great instructors in Florida that arent GUE. Cave 1 with someone like Kelvin Davidson of 3D in Mexico is an awesome GUE course too, in a sweet location. Are you looking for an...

    Cold Water Freediving wetsuit

Yazbeck Hammour or Carbone suits, or EliosSub. 7.5mm farmer john style. You want that extra insulation in your chest, and it keeps water off your core as long as possible. You can also throw a thin vest over/under a farmer john to supplement (or on top of pants, for that matter). Mako is fine...

    Is the industry picking up?

We've been absolutely slammed for the last six or so months, but we're not dependant on tourism and we don't do much (if any) shop travel. Alaska was also the first state to roll out vaccines for everyone. I think that it will slow down as the summer moves on and that unthawing feeling wears...

An odd question, is anyone using their DPV without scuba gear?

It depends on depth and repetition. But there's some great articles recently in DAN about competitive freedivers getting smoked by DCS. It seems past 100 feet is when you need to start being mindful of it. I'm just a bum with a scooter and long fins.

An odd question, is anyone using their DPV without scuba gear?

Oh, for sure. CUDA 400 or comparable while freediving--absolute human missiles. More fun than a human should have, but ascents need to be monitored. It's very hard to get bent freedving, but a DPV makes it way easier if you're not cognizant of what you're doing, how long/deep you're down...

What's it like being a diver living in NYC?

Brother, you are the type of human who keeps the diving world go round. That type of enthusiasm makes me want to come back to the area and do more diving--even more so than the desire to lounge on a tropical beach on my surface intervals.

Ginnie Springs diver missing - Florida

Copy and pasted from CDF regarding this specifically, because I haven't seen it yet, and most folks casually on Scubaboard aren't on CDF: " My name is Ken Hill and I have been an IUCRR member for the past 25 years and its Director for the past 15 years. Kelley texted me asking me to post a...

    Fair price for port plugs?

That is highway robbery. Most shops will give 'em to you if you're even a low-key regular. They cost pennies.

    I need a tall backplate

Halcyon makes one, although availability varies, especially with SS. I know we have someisome stock, but haven't ordered long pattern SS in a while. I like the weight of the heavy SS Scubaforce one, but it fits... weird. And it pushes cannisters waaay far back on your hips.

    New Dive-Xtras BlackTip just arrived.

Appreciate it, thank you! Honestly, being that we had the first one for all of four days, and I never tinkered with it. Got it in on a Thursday, dove it in a class on Saturday, sold it on Monday. We got two more in today, and we'll be doing just that on them.

    New Dive-Xtras BlackTip just arrived.

I'll throw my two cents in here to help out anyone considering a 'Tip. Have done three salt water dives with one, and half a dozen dives where my buddy had one, and I was on a CUDA 400 (or comparable). Starting with con's: Tail-heavy. There's no fixing the trim of the scooter when you're not...

What prevails about choosing a diving center?

For me, it's honestly just a response in 24-48 hours. If a shop gets back to me and answers my questions, it means they're monitoring potential customers and trying to answer their questions. I generally give that a point in the "customer service" category, especially in the dive industry where...

    Seacraft DPV's?

Also curious. My dive buddy got an ear infection, so I never made it out to see Edd. He glowingly recommended them though, and I was super bummed I didn't get a chance to get out and rip around on one.

    Seacraft DPV's?

Components of the scooters (specifically the battery) are made in the US, and they have a US distributor, which probably explains that.

    Seacraft DPV's?

Thanks for the feedback! If you had a "perfect" DPV, what would it be, and how would you rate the Future compared to it? (Obviously, we're disregarding runtime and pushing it's limits in this scenario)

    Seacraft DPV's?

Jon, I'd love to hear the results of that, if you're in a place to disclose them after the fact (no idea if you're under NDAs, etc). I really appreciate your responsiveness last time I reached out, and would love to hear how everyone stacks up. Without a doubt, you make a helluva technical DPV...

    Helium prices ...

We just got contract pricing with our local supplier at $300 p/ 300 cf. So, a buck a cubic foot. We had been paying $200, and then our rate spiked to $550, and now we're hopefully settled in at $300 for at least the next year. Apparently, retail is still $550. Yeesh.

    Helium prices ...

Had to claw at our local bulk gas supplier to keep prices reasonable (granted, for a penal colony like Alaska). Paid $260 for a 300 cf bottle of helium today, and was told to consider ourselves lucky to pay that amount. Very much considering paying a hazmat freight forwarder to challenge that...
