    Bonaire Truck Rentals?

There are 2 of us traveling to Bonaire in September. Based on comments on SB, I am considering reserving a truck through Bonaire Truck Rental, as comments said it was locally owned, and I had a questionable experience with Hertz last year. Has anyone had experience with either Bonaire Truck...

    Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud

I HATE the cloud and quickly gave up on the Shearwater service. As said above, the only thing Shearwater software is good for Is updating my Perdix. I, along with several dive buddies, use DiveLog app on our iPhones/iPads. It works GREAT. Bluetooth connects easily with Perdix. I type...

    Recent Theft from Truck

I read the Bonaire Reporter (newspaper) online to keep informed of local items of interest. I always read the Police Reports section, which sometimes has some funny stuff. Anyway, someone recently asked about crimes at dive sites. The below is a section from the April 13, 2022 Police Report...

Airline Prices to Bonaire - ouch

I am planning my 4th trip to Bonaire. In the past I have flown Delta and the ticket prices have always been $750-$850. I have been checking periodically and the prices are now averaging $1,200 - $1,800 (that’s more than I’m paying for an all inclusive week of diving). What gives? Is anyone...

Shearwater now majority owned by private equity firm

I have owned a Perdix for about 2 years and cannot be more pleased. I have owned a number of dive computers and the Perdix is hands-down the BEST!!! I have highly recommended it to friends who have also purchased the Perdix and all of us are very happy customers. One of the secrets to success...

What's the sign for "that's cool - thanks"

Uh, Chris, you may want to ask others, but in my area that symbol means something different. As in, if you made that symbol to female divers, you would would be a DM looking for another job. Just my thoughts as everyone prefers something different. For COOL we use a “C” shape with one hand...

    Pony Reg. Problem

The bottom line question is never “What is the cost of having it serviced?” BUT “What is the cost of NOT having it serviced?” Remember the reg is the most important piece of equipment. What is the cost if your reg malfunctions at depth? Personally, I service my regs annually and have even on...

    Perdix Transmitter Battery Question

The Perdix of course shows the battery level of the Perdix but I don’t see a battery indicator for the transmitter. If the transmitter battery gets low, will it display on the Perdix?

Question about Perdix and Transmitter Rubber O-rings

I like that the Perdix has double O-rings on the battery compartment “cap”. However, the transmitter only has 1 O-ring on the battery compartment. I just got my Perdix last fall and am wondering how often these O-rings should be changed. I’m thinking 1x every year. Any experience or thoughts?

    Scratches/Perdix

I’m completely anal about maintaining my equipment and trying to prevent screen scratches. I saw my Perdix had a screen protector, but I went to the Dollar Store nearby and bought a cheap cell phone screen protector and cut it to size of my Perdix. I then installed that cheap screen protector...

    Shearwater Desktop vs Shearwater Cloud

Oh crap. I just ordered a Perdix AI and it is to be delivered in a couple of days. I just ditched my old dive computer (another company) because they went all Cloud. Dear Shearwater, some of us REALLY HATE THE CLOUD!!!!! Please give us the option to have a desktop version. I’m really bummed...

Love me some Shearwater...but Cloud sucks

I just ordered a Perdix AI through my local dive shop. It is being shipped as I write this. Quick question - I HATE the Cloud and NEVER use any cloud features on any application. I refuse to put any of my information on a 3rd party computer. Will I be able to use my Perdix and it’s desktop...

Help - Dive boot difficult to remove from JetFin

I recently bought 3mm Akona booties and got a new pair of Jetfins. Both fit me perfectly; however, the Akona bootie, like many on the market, have the rubber top and rubber sole. I have used both the booties and the Jetfins in the local quarry on about 20 dives where I was standing and putting...

Condition of Key Largo dive sites after storms

I’m considering a dive trip with my daughter in mid-March to Key Largo, but I’m concerned about storm damage from last year. I understand that most is cleaned up topside, but what about the condition of the coral? Did the storms beat them up? My daughter and I don’t get to go on many dive...

Key Largo Shop recommendation for learning to be a Dive master

Pete, I am 54, an attorney in NC, and got my Divemaster certification 4 years ago. I went through the same consideration and am more than happy to talk with you on the phone (too much info to post here). I can't figure out how to get my phone number to you without posting it in the public...

    Dive Computer and Airport Security

Thanks to all. We live in Raleigh NC and a local woman had visited Roatan 2 months ago to buy a house. She had a travel mug with a hidden compartment for money. Security took it and cut it open to find a "white substance", which was interior insulation. They threw her in jail for about 10 days...
