What would be your total gas consumption for your 30 min bottom time + deco if you get a major failure with your 40? For what I can see, even if your SAC is 0.40, there's no way you'll have enough gas if you lose your deco gas at the end of your bottom time... Your buddy can obviously help you...
@rjack321 You obviously have a lot more experience than I have and I respect/value your comments! :)
I cannot dive on some charters due to the fact that I'm doing sidemount and on the ones that I'm allowed, I need to stand up with my two LP85s and my AL40 and try to walk on the boat the best I...
I'm obviously already aware of everything you're saying, and if we look at the best configuration for this kind of dive, SM isn't number 1. However, I'm moving to a rebreather in a year from now, so I'm not interested in investing any money in doubles at the moment. My goal is to gain as much...
Thanks for the great replies!
From what I can see, the LP85 are the best all around sidemount cylinders and moving away from them to get more gas implies some sacrifices. So depending how tall we are, how many stages/deco we carry, whether we're doing penetrations, how deep we're going and how...
One last question, is going from 7" diameter (LP85) to 8" (all the others) a big step up? Doesn't seem to me but since I've never tried, I figured I would ask? ;)
Thanks a lot for the great responses! :)
I have just updated my post on the cylinder's characteristics to add the Worthington Lp108 and to prevent others from making the same mistake I did, when I confused the -/+ sign change between full and empty cylinders... :/
So based on @kelemvor post...
I agree that there's 6lbs to 8lbs of air inside, but that's on a scale at the surface. In water, these numbers are different based on the cylinder's characteristics, in addition to the sea vs fresh water difference. But maybe I'm wrong? (please correct me if I am!!) :)
@northernone Thanks A LOT for your offer!!! Please PM me when you plan to be in Ottawa. If we can't go dive, we can certainly go for a beer...
Also, just to help the discussion, here are Faber's Low pressure cylinders characteristics from this web site...
@rjack321 I'm diving Faber LP85s at the moment. I've been to 160' on air many times so far, but narcosis stops me from going any further... Hence my goal to get certified for normoxic gas. But since I'll need another pair of tanks for these 160' to 220' wreck dives, I figured I would go with...
@northernone,
Your LP131 would give you around 175 cf each with a cave fill, so 350 cf for both!!! That's a lot of gas... But that seems like a pretty big step up from the LP85... Maybe too big?
I like the idea of LP108, and like @tbone1004 mentioned, don't need to change anything to get a...
Thanks tbone1004 for your answer,
I'll be taking a trimix course this coming Spring, so although I'm currently diving between 120' and 150' on nitrox, I'm planning on going up to 200' once I can use helium. I have been told that I will quickly want to dedicate a set of tanks to trimix, so I...
Hi everyone!
I've been diving LP85 in sidemount for a while now and I love them! However, I'm starting to do deeper technical dives (no cave) and I wouldn't mind having more gas...
So anyone having experience diving LP95 or even bigger tanks, say even LP108? How to they trim compared to the...
