As I understand it, nearly all commercially available regulators in the modern day will fail open (that is, a freeflow) rather than failing closed (no air at all). As I recall, there are only a couple of regulators on the market which fail closed and both are for tech diving use.
I was curious...
Heading to USVI for the first time in January, looking for some advice on:
Water temp + recommended wetsuit
Best dive sites (especially wrecks) in/near Trunk Bay, Cinnamon Bay, and Watermelon Key
Any other general advice, whether dive-related or not.
We are renting a boat which we will be...
I have no formal UW photography training and have been essentially learning it by trial and error over the past few years. I've gotten frustrated, however, so I'm looking for some wisdom from experienced UW photography folks.
I realize that I'm working with fairly amateur equipment (SeaLife...
Looking for some advice regarding mounting a safety sausage & lift bag to my Halcyon BP&W.
I was recently on a charter boat diving a wreck of NJ. During the dive, a buddy pair completely lost the wreck so, unable to find it again, they used a safety sausage + reel to make a safe ascent. It...

I usually dive the wrecks off NJ which are known to still yield quite a few artifacts. Thus far, I have not succeeded in finding anything although I have dived with folks who have found silverware, ammo casings, etc. (I should note that this is legal in NJ so long as the wreck is not a protected...

What Shutter Speed, Aperture Value, and ISO are recommended for diving NC wrecks? I am looking to get some good pictures of sharks and other close-up sea life.
1.) When use of an octopus/backup second stage become the norm? I know that for a long time they simply were not a thing, now they’re essentially mandatory.
2.) Before the octo era, what were OW students taught to do in the event of a freeflow at depth or an OOA situation?
So far I have been relying on automatic settings and I want to start experimenting with manual. I have a SeaLife DC2000 with a strobe. I mostly dive off NJ and enjoy wreck photography even though obviously it is very challenging in those conditions.
I'm looking for a good starting point with...
I am trying to find a charter boat that goes to the Lemuel Burrows wreck off NJ.
I've looked up several schedules and don't see it on any of them...not sure if it's too far out, or maybe just not a popular wreck.
Picked one up on Craigslist at a bargain price, got it serviced, and it seems to perform very well thus far.
Curious to know everyone's thoughts on the Mk25.
I have no formal training in UW photography and have been figuring it out as I go. Have also gradually been upgrading cameras every couple of years. Looking for constructive criticism.
Currently using a SeaLife DC2000 with a single external strobe and wide-angle lens...
I recently relocated back to Philly late last year and I'm doing a "U-boat tour" of East Coast wrecks this season. I've scoured Google for all the dive boats/dive shops in the area and have a few WW1/WW2-related wrecks lined up (Tolten, Gulf Trade, Chaparra, and San Saba.)
A little bit of my...
I'm looking to finally evolve from my growing pile of paper log books. I'm looking for an electronic log with the following features:
-iPhone app & online account so I can update on the go or at my desk
-functionality for listing weights, gear, notes about UW photography, etc. (I mostly use my...
Curious to know if there are any freshwater diving spots in eastern PA, Delaware, or NJ that are worth a visit...other than Dutch Springs, of course.
I seem to remember hearing something about a few but I cannot recall, and I'm interested in firsthand experiences anyway.
I'm trying to dive Dutch next Sunday (weekend of the Expo). Anyone interested?
Also, does anyone know if the Expo will make diving prohibitive? Parking limited or too many people in the water? I've never dove there the same weekend so I'm not sure.
I've only had my drysuit about 6 months or so and I'm interested in the community's advice about how best to maintain it. I know to keep the zipper waxed and to powder the seals after use, but what else should I be doing to ensure it stays in the best possible condition?
I have an Ursuit One...
