Emperor Echo damaged; guests and crew safe.

passports are held in a dry bag all together, which made it out. guests were allowed to pack a drybag each with what they could fit and bring with them

Emperor Echo damaged; guests and crew safe.

I was on the Seven Seas (a boat the Emporer acquired this summer) at that same time. We were side by side at fury shoals, but we left for daedelus that night and they stayed an extra night. So to add context for everyone here: 1)The storm was not forecast and caught everyone in the area by...

Anyone going to Roatan? Looking for dive buddies or deals

oh wow! incredibly complete and helpful. must have taken a while to put that all together too, so thanks!!! I just booked the aggressor for the x-mas week, but my flights are mondays, so I've got 2 weeks in roatan, with the LOB in the middle. This'll be my first time there, so I'll be...

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

Interesting post Mike, I was supposed on the be on the March 19 trip of that same boat. Given that airports were closing March 19th at noon, I was wondering if the trip before came back early and were able to get out.

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

Hi, depends on his local laws by country. Despite very good laws in Canada, my credit card tried to push me to claim under trip cancellation insurance twice... "so you want to make a trip cancellation claim?" me: "no, this is not an insurance claim, this is a service not rendered, I am...

Red Sea (Egypt) closed (covid-19 confined)

I was scheduled to land in Marsa Alam on March 19th, sailing to Sudan on a 2 week LOB. On March 2nd we got an emailed statement saying that they had hired a disinfecting company to disinfect the boat between trips and the crew would disinfect daily (not sure why the daily, if someone on the boat...

I'm 71 and DAN won't insure me -- now what?

I'm in Canada, so to begin with the laws in the states are very different. However when I looked into the insurance that comes with my credit card, fully expecting diving to be excluded as a "dangerous sport", I was surprised to find that in that clause, diving was excluded, but except when...

    Recent Experience at Brothers?

Hi, I was there the month before the closure, so not relevant on that end. However I was in Sharm recently and asking local guides on my LoB for an update on how Brothers boats are dealing with no mooring given how far it is from any mooring point to do a second day, vs the demand for brothers...

    Advice

From your post, it seems like Sharm area hotel diving is more suited to a group with a non-diver and visiting archealogical sites etc. For diving, as others have mentioned, March is not ideal. Water is around 21 degrees c, so far from freezing, but not the 27-28 in the summer. The main issue is...

Liveaboard in October: JP Marine or Amelia or Emperor Echo or Sunlight or?

I've done a LOB with emperor divers out of port ghalib. Not specifically Echo, I was on Asmaa, but can speak to the operations since I was doing 4 days local boats before, Asmaa, and then 3 days back on local after. Brit operation, really well run and most importantly, managed locally...

    Turks and Caicos Explorer II

Thanks all for the replies :) I searched the forums and found only reviews for that boat from 2013 etc. This is not my first LOB (ok, I'm hardly an expert, this is my 3rd.... :( ). But my first outside of egypt, and my first where I'm only doing 1 week LoB with no land-based time (Plane -...

    Turks and Caicos Explorer II

Hi, I'm booked on the Turks and Caicos Explorer in a few weeks, and was wondering if anyone here has been on that boat recently? Any advice on special things to bring that might be useful on that boat? I'll contact the boat as well, but is there an analyzer on the boat or do I need to bring...

    Silicone bumper to Teric?

The suunto ones covered less on the actual suunto watch, but after 9 years of abuse, my suunto had a single tiny ding when I sold it. IMO, it's the height of the silicone that causes the impact to be on the bumper first. but yes I agree that hit at an angle, it will take a hit.

    plastic screen protector for Teric?

I had asked the same question, and I finally found a compatible one tonight. I posted pics if you want to see the fit Silicone bumper to Teric?

    Silicone bumper to Teric?

Happy to report that I found one that fits! Was at my local dive shop tonight and they had a silicone bumper for the Mares Nemo that looked like the strappy part that goes over the band was bigger than the suunto ones. For $20, I gave it a shot, and it fits great. The sides are a bit close to...

    BDE vs St. Johns

Have to add, for your certification cards... cut the internet connectivity hassle out, and search yourself up on padi. print the results :) Not quite cert. cards, but better than worrying about their internet connection. Yes the dive guides are required to check the cards, but they are also...

    BDE vs St. Johns

For the SMB, in my experience (not the same boats, but liveaboards in the red sea), it's each individual diver requires an SMB, regardless of buddy teams. Leads to frustration for people having to buy one locally that they will never actually deploy. My suggestion would be buy a cheap one, that...

Dive Resorts in Sharm El Sheik (Sharks Bay Umbi Diving Village)

Got it. so based on that, umbi is a place where you can walk straight out of your room and into the water from the beach. However it is a sloping sand bottom (hence why my course was there, we considered that to be the "confined environment" portion of the course). Still nice, but I you'd be...
