Thanks @Trailboss123. Your recommendation, among input from others, helped in choosing their operation for these dives. Definitely a good time.

    Anacapa January Dives Highlight Reel

Featuring sea lions, a harbor seal, sheepshead, garibaldi, lobsters, a moray eel, etc. Also caught a glimpse of a Leopard Shark but I unfortunately couldn't get a decent shot. Enjoy!

Shore diving LA/OC area, early Jan

Appreciate the kind words Mark. Thank YOU for showing me around a phenomenal dive site. I'll hopefully get around to making a video highlight reel for the dive, but until then: Shaw's Cove, 3-Jan-2019

Shore diving LA/OC area, early Jan

Hi all, As with my last post, the SoCal sub is active and ready with great suggestions. I've reached out to Scuba Lawyer with my contact info, as well as mbrownsen. Hopefully, between the two, I'll figure out a good time to dive with someone. CLoP, truth be told, I haven't done a night dive yet...

Shore diving LA/OC area, early Jan

Hi All, You guys gave some great recommendations for a charter I ended up booking for my stay in So Cal this holiday season. I was also hoping to get in some LA/OC shore diving (conditions dependent of course). A little about me: I have 39 dives under my belt, 33 of those are California...

Looking for a boat dive recommendation

Thanks everyone for the input. After reading through the advice, I'm leaning towards tackling the wrecks another time. I'm right around 40 dives and fairly comfortable with cold water diving at moderate depths, but I am mostly interested in wildlife. Likely looking at Raptor's schedule.

Looking for a boat dive recommendation

Hi all, I'll be visiting SoCal in Dec/Jan and I'm trying to set aside some time for diving. If you could only do one boat dive below (or open to suggestions too!), which would you choose? 1. 3 tank w/Raptor SAT- Dec 29 2. 3 tank U/W Arch / Seals /Sea Lions / Kelp on SAT-Jan 5 with Raptor 3. 3...

Looking for site suggestions and Dec dive buddies

Thanks for the reply SoCalRich, I'm likely going to be diving Anacapa on the 30th. I was hoping for shore diving suggestions for the days before. With that being said, that makes at least 2 recs for the Dive Park, so maybe I should think about making some time to check it out.

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

2 dives at the breakwater Saturday morning to test weighting/fit on a new drysuit. Dive 1 -The wall 40ft, 40 mins, 10ft vis. Several sea puppies put on quite the show for us. Somersaults, bubbles in our face, close up swim-bys, and generally hanging out with us for a good portion of our dive...

Looking for site suggestions and Dec dive buddies

I’m going to be spending a few days in the LA area around the Holidays in December and would like to set aside some time to dive 1 or 2 of the local sites. I figure anything from Malibu to the OC is fair game. I currently dive around the Monterey/Carmel kelp forests and am comfortable with cold...

    Butterfly house

This is a great analogy. I might have to steal it when sharing this dive story in the future.

    Butterfly house

Likewise Enrique! Next dives here should definitely be smoother on the planning/ execution side. I'll see if I can edit the original report to reflect more than a slight current.

    Butterfly house

I appreciate you saying that. If this helps even one other diver plan their dives out more effectively/safely, I'd think it's a worthwhile contribution. Information on shore diving Butterfly House is rather hard to come by.

    Butterfly house

To be honest, I can't recall a ravine exactly like the one in the video, but there were plenty of comparable canyons making for great swim-throughs. There was one notable one in particular that was covered in hundreds of purple urchins on both sides. It made for a bouyancy obstacle course of...

    Butterfly house

Shore diving Butterfly House TLDR: 1. Arrive early, or carpool. The only parking available is on Stewart way, and there is only space for 3-4 cars. 2. Check conditions: Obviously the smaller the swell, the better. You also want to time your dives as close to high tide as possible. 3...
