Why Not Take Dr. Bill Home With You?

Bill, I downloaded and viewed the mp4 podcast. I thought it was well done. I will place an order for several of the DVDs later today. I am interested in what you have to say about the Loligo opalesence, since I was on the SIO squid expedition to Catalina in January 1972. Have you thought...

    Can anyone explain why?

Ben, I don't have any of my pinneped books with me, but if my memory is correct Halichoerus grypus has a lot of physical contact with conspecifics in their underwater play. So it does not surprise me if physical contact also occur with a diver. I don't remember when they molt, but that could...

Over the head donning of BC

I learned the overhead method ...awhile ago... as the only method to use underwater if you wanted to breath off your two hose regulator while doffing or donning. The hoses were a little short for donning jacket style (one arm at a time).

Do you ever dive WITHOUT a flag?

Its a State Law here. A freind recently had a flag on his anchored boat, but Fish and Game still fined him $190 because he wasn't 'carrying' the flag on a reel.

    Giant squid in Monterey?

The dictionary states that both octopuses and octopi are recognized plurals. It's difficult to keep open ocean, squid alive long enough to do learning experiments. When startled, that is when lights turn on or when placing dip nets in tanks, the squids giant axon fires and they tend to beat...

    SSshhhhhhhhhh---computers!

I bought my Edge in '87 and still use it when I dive my vintage gear. I now mostly dive technical, both open circuit, SCR and soon CCR. My current computers are a little overkill; I use a monochrome VR3, Nitek He, and Vytek in guage mode for BT, and depth.

    Mountain pass after diving

The following Hyperlink takes you to the altitude table we use in the Sierra Nevadas: http://www.sierradive.com/Altitude.htm Assuming that you are starting near sea level, going up to the 3,022 ft pass would add 8 pressure groups to your last dive. (2 pressure groups per 1000 feet, and...

    Hi from Lake Tahoe

Hi, I joined the board recently. I have been diving for more years than I like to admit. I learned in the bad old days, getting my first cardboard C cards in 1968 (NAUI and NASDS). My old equipment is now considered "Vintage", but I also dive with the latest. Current certifications...
