What's the craziest thing you ever found?

Maybe a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 used in some WWII airplanes

Question Could you sleep in an overwater bungalow with no A/C?

AC for me, and @Centrals, I don't know why anyone consider that "personal information." Heck, I doubt anyone even knows who I really am:) I don't know who you really are.

    Divemaster course over 2 weekends?

That's the way to go if you really don't want to be trained, just want the card. Disgraceful on the part of PADI and people who would accept this type of "training"

    Inner Ear Barotrauma

I had inner ear barotrauma after a long day of following students up and down the water column with an ear that wasn't equalizing properly, lost ALL hearing in right ear, was prescribed oral steroids, and told to not dive or drive to different elevations. A SCUBA instructor friend had a similar...

    Diving Silfra Fissure in Iceland

I did it a few years ago in January. We suited up in a snow storm. There was a gal from Australia who had just got her OW certificate and knew nothing of dry suits. The DM suited her up, gave a dry suit introduction, and off we went with the DM holding her hand. She was cute. Now, that dive is...

    Jimmy Buffett

I went to two Jimmy Buffett concerts in Las Vegas years ago. They were proceeded by a daytime "Margaritaville" with many hundreds of parrot-heads enjoying the music and the drinks and socializing. I was always struck by the multi generational makeup of the crowd swept up in the ambiance. By the...

    Personal liability for independant instructors

Good luck! The basic liability coverage is expensive enough. If you have significant personal worth, the cost of adding additional coverage blows one's mind. If instructing will be a part time job for you, is it worth it?

Small waterproof case for car key fob

I also take a metal key diving to open the door. My FOB is in an RFID pouch inside the truck. My FOB for the Toyota 4Runner can also be turned off by holding down the lock button and pushing the unlock button twice.

    So so sad -Vaquita

I hate to learn of yet another toll on wildlife for the sake of Chinese "medicine." In this case the desire for a swim bladder, of all things, costs us a threatened fish (Totoaba) and a threatened marine mammel.

    Wound in the tropics ?

This thread proves that sometimes a healthy human body will eventually heal itself despite poor management:)

    Wound in the tropics ?

If I were on a 1-2 week dive trip to a great location, I would still dive with it. I know it would take longer to heal, but I could take care of it. I am not recommending that the OP dive, mainly because he is apparently in some third world location and does not know how to take care of it.

    Wound in the tropics ?

It looks like you lost tissue in this injury, and in the third picture it looks deeper than I thought originally. It looks deeper than a simple abrasion. It's going to take a while to heal. There are some spots of dead tissue. I'm assuming there is no medical resource available to you? If there...

    Wound in the tropics ?

I'm a retired MD. I'll tell you what I would do, but I'm not giving advice. I would dive with it. When not in the water I would gently cleanse it with soap and water. I would put antibiotic cream on it and cover it. No Betadine. It's too hard on raw tissue. I wouldn't use sugar, though in the...

    Rare inflammatory response in diving

This article is notable for what it doesn't tell us. How was the diagnosis made? What studies were done that suggested it was "an extreme form of an inflammatory response due to diving [or anything else]?" How was it treated, as an inflammatory disease, as a patient in shock or in a hyperbaric...

Question So I'm 65 and on medicare which will not cover a physical. What do older divers do for the required physical? How extensive should it be?

I agree with this in a lot of cases. It all depends on the ethics of the doctor. Some doctors do a reasonable history and physical exam during the wellness exam. In other cases the wellness exam is a joke with the patient filling out a questionnaire, and a nurse asking some questions and having...

Question So I'm 65 and on medicare which will not cover a physical. What do older divers do for the required physical? How extensive should it be?

As a physician (retired) I see no difference between stating that, "a person is deemed fit for diving" and, "he has no known contraindications to participating in recreational scuba diving" I suspect that lawyers would treat the two statements the same.
