Old school canvas sneakers in near freezing water? I pass....
Yesterday I checked out the socks on a drysuits and those look very uncomfortable.
Floppy bags you have to stow into a rock boot. I tried several rock boots in the shop but not to happy with them.
But Luckily they had an option C...
Just two seasons in with my Waterproof D7 dry suit and already having a leaky boot.
The OEM attached boots are kevlar reinforced but seemingly no match for a heavy weight diver.
Naked weight 130kg. (Not all muscle but I am pretty tall) All geared up atleast 30kgs extra.
The diving I do...
Thanks scubaboard.
Always had a spg only until I bought a Perdix AI.
My spg showed 40 bars less then my perdix.
Emptied my tank at 1 meters depth and noticed my Perdix was right.
My spg is for **** and giggles only now...
I had a 7mm full wetsuits with a secondary 7mm body.
I needed 18kg to descend.
The first time I went deeper then 90ft I noticed my BCD was too small.
Now I have a drysuit for the winter dives.
I made my own floaters from pvc drainpipe, 4 balls and some epoxy.
After the first test dive I added a bolt in the top side.
Now I can flood the floaters to get perfect buoyency.
Buoyency stay the same on all depths.
I have an old iPad which I vacuum sealed and it works perfectly underwater.
It has a big database of all living creatures which I can acces underwater.
I can take notes of my findings, compare underwater scenes with older pictures and easy texting with my buddy.
I do miss my iPod sometimes. :nyah:
Are we talking about catastrophic failures in the sense of losing air rapidly or just a broken dial and still able to finish the dive?
For me the "pony" pressure gauge is just a gimmick and I could do without it.
Suunto EON Steel never failed.
I have a small SPG on my first stage as back up. :)
When I connect my gear I always check if the spg and computer show the same data.
I had 5kg per pocket.
The main reason for me to purchase the DTD wing was the weight of the backplate.
I prefer the weight on the back over the weight on the belt.
Secondly the xDeep always felt a little bit too small for me.
(2 meters and 130kg)
I always used the large optional xdeep weight pockets and never had any problem with them.
But I always make sure the pocket is stuffed full so it would slip out.
If I need less lead I stuff some small towels inside the pocket so it doesn't slip out of the outer pocket.
But after long...
In the Netherlands we consider 6 feet of vision as clear water. :D
Navigation by compass is necessarily here.
If visibility is so bad you cannot read your compass it is (IMHO) plain stupid to go into the water. (Or you must have a very good reason to do so)
If visibility drops to zero during a...
As I always shoot in full manual mode I have the same problem.
I came to the same solution as you and also use a dimmed (video) torch for focusing.
It evenly brightens the area of interest without having a hot spot on the subject.
At night dives I use a red filter on the torch and I really...
Such focus light only works when using a pre flash. (The pre flash is the signal for the torch to switch off)
I have a canon G16 and in full manual mode this camera does not have a pre flash.
So before you spend a lot of money make sure that the G12 does have a pre flash in the mode you like to...
Most of my dives are in murky tidal waters.
The biggest risk is getting entangled in fishing line or hoop nets.
A pointed knife does not have any benefit over a blunted tip for me.
I got around 100 dives with the xDEEP Ghost and I am pretty happy with it so far.
It looks good.
It works.
The tank is secured well on my back. I can easily do barrel rolls and loop-de-loops underwater.
Never got an issue with it.
The only drawback is the high placing of the weight pockets.
It...
Hi all,
Glad to be here.
I started scuba diving when I was young and stopped when I got to college.
3 years ago I visited the Bahama's and got the vibe again. Even my girlfriend started scuba diving and we now we make 3-4 dives each week.
In the Netherlands the water temperatures get pretty...
