My 50th dive was today at the local quarry. Nothing special, chased the Bluegill and watched the catfish whilst working on trim and my hovering. 46 minutes at 24 feet in 70 degree water. It was fun!
Sounds like you were being rushed thru the confined portion of the course for whatever reason. When I did the removal / replacement of my BC during confined water, we were instructed to kneel on the bottom with your right leg up. When removing the BC, you swung it over and rested it on your...
I dive an Aqualung Axiom i3. Left side pocket has a slate with pencil. Whistle on my right shoulder strap. Safety sausage on my right side lower pocket D-ring. Primary knife is on my left side just above my inflator valve. Console with compass and computer are on my left side with a retractor...
I will agree with you, this past Sunday visibility was pretty awful especially on the north side where the training platforms are. Tried going deep and it was better, around 15 to 20 foot visibility on the SS Flamingo. I've never been to Deep Hole and never want to go!
First it's Haigh Quarry not Hague just for clarification. Second I gone diving there many times and the visibility is rarely as poor as it was this past weekend (when I'm assuming you were there) unless it is the middle of August and the algae is in full bloom. The poor visibility was largely...
I started diving using a back inflate, but over the winter purchased an Aqualung Axiom i3 a... *le gasp* jacket style and I LOVE it! No squeeze and quite easy to get trim and neutral in. I guess it is mainly personal preference when it comes to a BC.
Poor uneducated decisions are one of the reasons why divers get into trouble and sometimes die. It is up to the individual diver not anyone else to make the right choice when it comes to how they dive. If we want to go deep, explore a wreck or enter a cave then we have to get the proper...
A diver with a PADI Open Water cert is supposed to be limited to a max depth of 60 feet. So the fact that you were going 25 feet beyond that depth and that he had just a few logged dives should have been a red flags for both you AND your buddy! Thankfully you were level headed and handled the...
I have to imagine that the OP is considering this because her instructor or the "more adventurous divers" at her LDS told her "it will be fine". Or worse someone spoke those two words that strike fear in the hearts of those of us who know better, "trust me".
OP listen to what is being said by...
I've aborted 1 dive in 21 logged dives, a night dive in my local quarry. Poor visibility and buddy separation about 15 minutes in, reunited on the surface and called it a night.
And perhaps when she has enough experience some of those fears will be overcome, but until that time comes is is always better to error to the side of caution and stay well within our limits.
No ones fears are ever unwarranted! Yes it may in your mind and the minds of others diving in the Cayman's may be easy and relaxing but you are missing the overall point here. No ones fears should ever be cast aside and since the OP expressed her concern about encountering sharks and rays as...
This is quite interesting and while I'm not a professional rescuer / emergency provider in any sense I thought I would answer just to see if I would have the proper thought process in such a situation.
Question:
Should your back up team be dressed EXACTLY like you and your buddy?
Answer: I...
