    Must to dive Keys

I've lived here 3 yrs, and the word is usually no shore diving in the Keys, but I do it all the time around Hollywood. Hollywood Beach off Michigan Ave, Dania Beach either N or S of the pier, Pampano off Hybiscus are all easy shore dives with Pampano being the shortest swim...maybe 100 ft offshore.

Divers Unlimited to be SCUBA Emporium

I dropped by Divers Unlimited today to find out why their dive boat has not been at the marina at Dania for some time, and got the scoop from Rick. After a long and successful run, the owners decided to sell the business to SCUBA Emporium, a Chicago operation. From their website...

Sanibel/Captiva Island snorkling, diving, fishing spots?

We have been going to Sanibel for 20+ years, (first from Illinois and now from Ft Lauderdale area) and from my experience, shore diving there is almost impossible. From the Lighthouse West, viz is usually poor and the slope is very shallow. Once you make the turn North, the water seems to...

Miami things to do in 3-4 hours? (airport layover)

There's a pretty decent restraunt on airport property on the south edge of the runways called 94th Aero Squadron. There are others in the US, but if you haven't been to one, it's a WW-I French theme with good food and a view of the runways. We have always had a good time there, but you know...

    Hollywood Beach

Sounds like you have some good ideas for Spring Break. A lack of enthusiastic response indicates most Hollywood area divers are sitting here, waiting for weather to clear. Right now, Cold (by South Florida definition) Fronts and Easterly winds are not being kind to the beach divers. By the...

    Newbie to Scuba Diving

Ryan, Welcome to a great place (SB) to learn and laugh. You'll have to clue these folks in on the Bonne Terre facilities. I'm sure the tech divers are thinking "Oh no, an untrained student doing caves, overhead environment," etc. Being from just across the Mississippi, in Illinois...

Hollywood Beach Dives this weekend Jan.21/22

Ah, OE, I knew you'd remind us that it ain't always smooth sailin' and calm seas. You could sell a video of your adventures.

Hollywood Beach Dives this weekend Jan.21/22

01-21-06- I sat on the beach and watched the group fight the surf. It was a good day for sun and kites, but not diving. Too bad it was a bad experience for the one young student. It was his first OW. He spooked about 10 feet from shore and crawled back in. I don't think I was out of line...

    appreciation from colorado

Skip the Pennekamp "beach" lagoon. They do have decent boat trips where you can see the usual tropicals, turtles, corals and sponges. Last year prices were around $30/person.

Hollywood Beach Dives this weekend Jan.21/22

Looks like high tide at Hollywood is 1:56 on the 21st. The winds were moderate and out of the East this morning (7:00 a.m. 01-21-06) when I stopped at the site. Hope to see you there.

This is my 2nd day of ScubaBoard. A former member said he left ScubaBoard because

Welcome aboard, Neil. Hang around this bunch very long, and soon you will be trying on masks at the LDS and asking "How long can you stay under with that tank?" It's a long drive, but there is some nice snorkel water in the Keys. Just hanging in the water, watching the fish and turtles...

first dive, sea-sick and diesel fumes Help!

Being from your area (Broward), I'm interested in the name of the op or school that went out in those conditions. It seems a bit "overboard" and overly macho to subject students to that. Of course, a buck is a buck, and the concern for a good expierence can be overshadowed by the schedule and...

    Manatee

I'd love to take my wife somewhere close to to Hollywood to see them. She is a bit handicapped, and cannot climb into boats or do many things most people can do, but loves to look at pics of manatees. Could you share a little more info re. where this sanctuary is? I'd also be interested in...

Anyone live near or around Hollywood FL??

Stay tuned to ScubaBoard, and if you make any exploratory trips this way, give us a "heads-up" and I'm sure there will be a few folks interested in showing you and your wife around. Meanwhile, best of luck in OK.

Anyone live near or around Hollywood FL??

As you can see, it's a different place down here. Two years ago, I interviewed in Ardmore, Oklahoma and Miami. I feel so lucky that I landed the job here in FL. If you love year-round out door recreational opportunities, this is it. I have met some of the greatest people because of my...

Anyone live near or around Hollywood FL??

I'm still a newbie here in Hollywood, but the diving is close, so that makes it pretty good even when it's bad. I've met lots of neat Conchs and had a ball so far. Two weeks ago, the vis was easily 40 ft + at the Hog Heaven barge site with little current. There were 5 divers on Divers...

A new battery made my day

Sometimes in life, there are pleasant surprises that remind you of how things used to be… or ought to be. This was the case when I needed a new battery for my old computer. I tried several shops in Ft. Lauderdale area, and received puzzled looks and courteous declines. Most of the clerks...

    PVC Housing: Question

You probably know this, but there are very specific adhesives for different materials. The loctite website has great information about how to make things stick. Going with their recommendation should guarantee the best results. Eastman was another manufacturer I turned to when I was in...

    I bought a boat!

Hey Reb, That's great news. Now all your "friends" will figure out how to show up for the fun and be busy when it's time to work. Honestly, I loved boating, but now that my 2-car garage is a one-car closet, I'm content to just look at the pictures. Enjoy it.

    Wing problem

I use Loctite for locking steel screws into tapped holes in plastics. Just Google Loctite. They have all kinds of thread sealers and adhesives.
