Dive computers... bought one, then booked a liveaboard, so got an identical one for backup. Got an air integrated hose one, so got a watch style with transmitter as primary for next trip... been sitting on it since 2019 due to pandemic... so at the moment, four dive computers...

Plug for Andaman Dive Adventure on Koh Lanta

@Centrals They might do a 4 day discount package if you contact them. I got a discount when I dove with them, but I did 20 days last time, so I asked about a discount and they made one for that amount of diving. I'm sure they could customize something. For Hin Daeng/Muang, they provide an ADA...

    Raja ampat sorong flights help

I've only been to Indonesia once and gate change happened to me. I'm normally one to watch and go with the flow, but I would suggest asking at the new gate where your flight is leaving from. Like I mentioned, there's the gangway and possibly, from the tarmac, which is a side door at the gate.

    Raja ampat sorong flights help

I did a Komodo liveaboard in 2018. I flew Garuda, since it had the best reputation for both timeliness and baggage allowance. Baggage allowance was good, no unexpected extra. Flight out, from Bali to Labuan Bajo was on-time, though the gate was changed while waiting and the gate was serving...

Cheap Gopro Soonsun filters - Are they any good?

The filter colors from the photos look correct. Hopefully you'll get the same. I've ordered cheap filters advertised as "for underwater" on eBay and what I received didn't match the product photos. It was just a red filter, not light orange, as it needs to be for blue water. The main issue with...

Koh Tao underwater photography advice needed

I said /I/ shoot with a G12. I didn't advise you to do the same. The G12 handles both wide and, somewhat, macro, which allows for a range of situations... which led to the question of whether what you attach for the day will determine what you can shoot. On the day of the Whale Shark, I was...

Koh Tao underwater photography advice needed

I only shoot with a Canon G12 with Canon housing, mostly macro (goby, shrimp, etc), but turtles, Black-Tip Reef sharks and one time, a Whale Shark from Koh Tao. I guess be prepared for the whole gamut of sizes, but whatever you have attached with determine what size of things you can shoot for...

Plug for Andaman Dive Adventure on Koh Lanta

I've always had an interest in Japan, due to anime. In 2006, I did my first trip to Asia, Japan to be specific. Prior to that, I think I did what most US citizens did when traveling abroad, which was go to Europe. Once I started going to Japan, I just kept returning. In 2009, work offered an...

Thailand May 2022 - Sifting Through Noise.

Hahah... I've mostly stayed at DJL Backpackers Hostel whenever I go to Koh Tao. I think it's always been 300 THB since 2009. I dive with them too, so it's convenient to wake up and just walk outside and be at the dive shop. My diving trips are dive as much as possible, so morning dives, lunch...

Plug for Andaman Dive Adventure on Koh Lanta

My dive trips have been going to Thailand and doing an extended layover in Japan on the way back. The extended layover either costs nothing extra or just adds a couple of hundred - two destinations for practically the price of one! With Covid travel restrictions, I haven't gone in three years...

Lucky escape as ferry caught fire

Wow... Between the two, I found Lomprayah had better entertainment, playing videos of comedy pranks. Sea Tran mostly played ads. Both got me to Koh Tao without much fuss. I only "recently" did the Chumphon to Koh Tao route (2018), mainly because it was cheaper than flying to Koh Samui and...

Anyone tried an eSIM for data in Indonesia?

I used to use Google Voice as a backup number, but if I leave it idle, Google will reprovision the number to someone else. For the single big trip traveler like myself, I will get a new Google Voice number prior to a trip and pass that along to contacts, but it's way easier to just use my normal...

Anyone tried an eSIM for data in Indonesia?

My example of T-Mobile USA was to say that your existing carrier might also include some included roaming usage, not to suggest getting another phone plan. If keeping your existing number is desired, then perhaps have your phone on Wi-Fi Calling and use an older phone in hotspot mode with a...

Anyone tried an eSIM for data in Indonesia?

At least with T-Mobile USA there's a large set of countries where your mobile plan just keeps working, just at a slower data rate, 2G/3G, and the data cap is limited, but you can pay extra to keep it working and/or to get higher speeds. Most of the time, I'm using Wi-Fi Calling at the...

    STAY SAFE—NO MOPEDS

Many times in Thailand, Vietnam or Greece, I've seen people having to stay-in at hostels due to injuries from scooter accidents. The worse was someone bandaged up on the face, arms and legs and spending their vacation time replacing bandages. Along with that, a few people worried about getting...
