    Miami Diving worth it?

I haven’t dove in South Africa to compare, and my experience is in Ft Lauderdale area, but things are pretty similar. Vis can be a 30’ on a crap day or 150’ on a good day. There are decent reefs but nothing like the Keys/Caribbean. Water temperature is usually upper 70’s-low 80’s. I prefer to...

Recommendations for Tank Rentals Around Captain Cook

Thanks for the input! I was hoping there might be some lower profile shop in the area but it seems not. I was already planning on having to drive to the north side of Kona for our boat dives, but I was hoping there was somewhere closer for fills, especially since we will be staying so close to...

Recommendations for Tank Rentals Around Captain Cook

I’m planning a trip for my wife and I to the Big Island for the first two weeks in April. We will be staying in a vacation rental 2 miles from Kealakekua Bay. We are planning to do a fair amount of shore diving, so I’m curious what my options are for tank rentals. I saw Big Island divers rents...

Has anyone here used a Proshot iPhone waterproof case?

I paid the $2 for the "pro" upgrade to the app. Well worth it.

    Scubapro Gorilla Orange

Scubapro initially only sold the orange Seawing Gorillas to instructors- everyone else got white. Obviously they now sell them to everyone.

Prep for Combat Diving (NAUI vs PADI)

They do actually give out BUD/S contracts now, similar to the Army's 18x program. Massive washout rate in both programs.

Filmmaker Rob Stewart's family files wrongful death lawsuit

I was going to say the same thing, and it always applies. Most people just don't know about it. A jury never has to convince, even if someone clearly broke a law. If the jury thinks it's a bad law they can simply vote "not guilty"

Prep for Combat Diving (NAUI vs PADI)

Assuming you're in America, the biggest thing you will want to focus on is physical abilities. Military diving is very different from rec diving, so it really doesn't matter who you get certified through. Make sure you can easily run 5 miles and are a good swimmer. A specific goal is to be able...

Absolutely not. It's life support equipment.

Filmmaker Rob Stewart's family files wrongful death lawsuit

Sure, but Scubaboard is a comparatively small community. May be a reasonable presence in the dive world, but outside of divers who would know about it? Taking it to court and turning it into a huge case with massive publicity- they can win over non divers, effectively turning his name into a...

Filmmaker Rob Stewart's family files wrongful death lawsuit

For Rob's parents to get what they want, they don't have to win the court case. All they have to do is win the court of public opinion. That would almost certainly end Sotis' career as a dive instructor (if it's not already over). If he can't prove in court he is innocent, even if the court...

    Recommendations for Personal Ultrasonic cleaner?

That sounds like a good way to never dive again LOL

Filmmaker Rob Stewart's family files wrongful death lawsuit

It actually very likely could be about fixing a problem- from their perspective. They lost their son, and the natural reaction is to go after the responsible party. It seems they sincerely believe Peter Sotis, Horizon Divers, etc are responsible regardless of whether or not that's actually the case.

    Awesome retractor on Amazon

I know some sites sellers do that kind of stuff when they are out of stock on an item temporarily but want to leave the ad up. That way they just correct the price instead of having to remake the ad when they get the product back in (I'm pretty sure that's what happens on eBay). I would think...

"Correct Weighting" Identified as #1 Needed Improvement in SCUBA Diving

A perfect example would be walking vs buying a car. Walking is cheaper, simpler, not maintenance etc. I'll take my truck any day though. Some people like to walk everywhere they go and it works for them. Great. There's no way you can convince me that I'd be happier walking everywhere.

"Correct Weighting" Identified as #1 Needed Improvement in SCUBA Diving

The issue isn't that you can't dive without a BC, and I don't think anyone would dispute that diving without a BC simplifies the process in certain aspects, however, it greatly complicates thing in others to the point that very few people would prefer to do without. Eliminating a BC cuts down on...

    Adv Open water cert question.

Advanced open water is just an overview to allow you to test out interests. If you want to really know how do any of the skills you do the specialty. Should it be more/with an instructor who goes above and beyond will you get more? Sure. In practice it's usually just an instructor monitored...

"Correct Weighting" Identified as #1 Needed Improvement in SCUBA Diving

What is being referenced is an AL80 being 80cf when it's more like 77 for real. That said, it doesn't really matter. If not using technology makes you feel fulfilled, more power to you. For the average person the work involved to dive without a BC isn't worth the hassle. Also, I am slightly...

Best place to get good fills

I moved here from Missouri. Back there you got 2800-3000 unless you asked for less, and could get 3500 pretty easily. I've never had mine that full, and I understand if someone is concerned with safety, but when my tanks have a current plus rating and no one wants to fill it to that? Diving...
