    Egypt in August: bad idea?

It depends what you want really. This year I am going on an Emperor boat as that seems to give the best quality for the money, boats are a bit older, but food and guides are good. Also Emperor do attract more English speaking guests. If you want to spend more then Scuba Scene is worth a look.

    Egypt in August: bad idea?

I have been regularly going to Egypt during July or August for the past ten years. We are a family of four from the UK, for us it has offered the best diving for the kids during summer holidays without travelling too far. Heading back again this year in August. We really haven't found it too...

Where to go that is not SE Asia or Caribbean?

Cyprus? Stay in Larnaca and you have the fantastic Zenobla wreck on your doorstep. Larnaca is a reasonable place to stay, and there is plenty to explore on the island.

    M/V Tillis (Dive Pro Liveaboard)

I was on Sea Legend in October 2022. Incredibly sad what happened recently on the boat. Reflecting on the week I spent on the boat, we did have a several small issues during the week, and several areas on the boat were very much style over substance. My main memory of the week was the...

    Which month for BDE?

Both great routes. The question really is do you want to dive at Brothers or Fury Shoals. Brothers has amazing diving, with deep walls and the chance to see big stuff, it is very similar to Daedalus, but different. You used to be able to spend two days at the Brothers, which I think was...

    Which month for BDE?

If you are planning land excursions I would avoid August. I go to Egypt most summers and it does get very very hot in the daytime in August, I really wouldn't want to be walking far outside during the day. However around the water it is fine, I been on liveaboards the last two years during...

considering liveaboard to Red Sea; can't do a lot of currents

I would suggest a ‘South & St John’s’ trip would give the best option. Typically relaxed diving without too much current. There are plenty of dives on offer on this route so if you want to sit a couple out. you will still get plenty of dives in. I did this route a couple of years ago and I...

Info Ship sunk in the Red Sea

Here is the last tracking location I can find: https://www.vesselfinder.com/?imo=9138898 The news said it was being towed towards Djibouti, so I would guess it sank somewhere south of the last tracked location. A long way from the Egyptian Red Sea.

Liveaboards vs day trip boats safety differences

Sadly it does seem that a German diver died due to the fire. There is a report here: Scampati all’incendio della nave e vivi per miracolo: la vacanza da incubo di due salentini in Egitto Needs to be translated from Italian. And yes it did temporally replace Scuba Scene in 2022. I was on...

Liveaboard insurance for UK divers diving abroad

Interesting about IDA, I hadn't realised that was the case. I assume that is a result of Brexit and means that they are no longer regulated by the FCA, however being from the UK I can still be covered by them? I currently have an annual family DAN policy this is in addition to travel insurance...

    Diving the Thistlegorm no liveaboard

I have dived the Thistlegorm numerous times. Once was via a dayboat from Sharm with Emperor. It involved a very early start (maybe 5am meet) and then just two dives on the Thistlegorm. It is several hours motor from Sharm so you don't get that long on the wreck. Also all the day boats turn...

    LOB for family?

I have done two liveaboards with my children, I wrote trip reports for them both: https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/family-liveaboard-on-my-thunderbird-and-breakers.624289/ https://scubaboard.com/community/threads/family-liveaboard-firebird.638253/ Deepblue Cruises have a few family...

Overwhelmed with choices for Red Sea diving/liveaboard (Oct/Nov 2024)

From your description I would say pick a trip that heads south from Port Ghalib. A route that includes St Johns and Fury Shoals will give you some really interesting dive sites, generally pretty relaxed diving with lots to look at. Heading that way the dive sites are also fairly quiet without...

Recommendation for non-luxury safe liveaboard, rental gear (1w)

I have dived the BDE route a few times in October, I have also dived 'Brother & North' in October. Since the Brothers has been closed to over night stays it is noticeable how many more boats are at Daedalus, most will spend two days here, whereas previously boats would spend one day here after...

Trip Report Scuba Scene Oct 16-23 2023

Thanks for taking the time to write a report. I dived on a liveaboard with Elke a few years ago. I thought she was a great guide (among the best in the Red Sea), and incredibly knowledgeable about sharks.

what happens if liveaboard sailing is cancelled?

I think I have done 10 Red Sea liveaboards, and I think half of those have been rearranged in one way or another. This summer we were on a boat which only had 8 divers, max number was 16, which was great. However before hand I did keep a close eye on other boats schedules, so if the trip...

Trip Report Family Liveaboard - Firebird

Day 3 Dive 1 - Early morning we moved to a site called Small Crack. I haven’t dived here before and it was a great dive. The boat was moored in a lagoon surrounded by a reef system. We were taken by zodiac and dropped on the outer reef for a gentle drift dive, eventually we reached the small...

Trip Report Family Liveaboard - Firebird

After a successful family liveaboard holiday in 2022 : Trip Report - Family Liveaboard on MY Thunderbird (and Breakers) I planned a similar but different family trip for 2023. Again going with Deep Blue Cruises, but this time on their boat Firebird on a Wrecks & Reef route from Hurghada. My...

Trip Report Red Sea Serpent Grand Egypt

Thanks for taking the time to write a trip report, always good to read. It reminds me that I need to finish writing a write up from a liveaboard I did in the summer on the same Northern route. In comparison we were on a small cheap boat, which takes 16 divers, but only 8 of us onboard. Food...
