    Why choose GUE Rec-1?

Congrats for your daughter's certification =)

    DIR- GUE 30/30

Trained for it but I never used it... no reasons to do it in warmish, calm and clear Mediterranean water. I'd like having official access to 25/25 though... it would be much more useful.

Best practices of GUE versus other dive programs ?

Sorry it's obvious that there are comparable or better instructors somewhere... but if joe dir is on the 90th or 95th percentile of people who teach open water (emphasis on open water) allow me to use the "every" word! The sentence you are contesting refers only to open water, maybe...

Best practices of GUE versus other dive programs ?

Am I the only one here who took R1? LOL! Tech pass level is the f---ing solo mythic mode dungeon of diving. But I'll get there someday =D we will all get there! I don't have taken fundamentals, but I have heard too a couple of guys mentioning that Rec1 is about equal to Fundamentals. BTW, I...

Best practices of GUE versus other dive programs ?

I REALLY wouldn't want to be the poor guy who does Rec 1 in 5 days straight (even if it possible, and I doubt it)

Long hose (7 feet) versus AI transmitter ?

At least in my case, it's not a problem. (Apeks FSR with long hose coming off the 5th port and hp transmitter on the right port)

How early is too early to progress your diving?

I just made the switch to doubles like you (60 or so non training dives). Carrying redundant access to a boatload of gas instead of lead (that I don't need in twins) sounds smart and give a warm feeling of safety. Besides, take R2 when you can... It's really an awesome class

A reminder to check your hoses - and remove the strain reliefs!

I use a strain relief on the first stage side of every hose, doing this for looks and in order not to have my hoses cracked and bulging. I check it after every diving day, since I rinse even the hoses all the way to the fittings with a sponge and soapy water and I need to move them to clean (A...

As tech diver, diving single tank no-deco rec. in trim, what is your waist/hip lead?

Salt water, steel plate, drysuit, 15l steel = 9 lbs in a belt.

    Need DSMB help

Halcyon inflation valves don't require you to keep pressed the little round thing to inflate, you just exhale into them. I own the 6ft slim H dsmb and it's the only Halcyon product I have. Waiting until after the course may be a good idea, since a DSMB larger than the 1mt one will make your life...

Rock bottom, 500 PSI, or something else?

I use normal Gue minimum gas rules. Maybe I'm coming up with a bit more gas, but I prefer having it and not needing it than the other way around.

Cold water but hot day: drysuit advice

I dive only dry since I have no other suit and I learned this way... Prepare all your gear and bring it to the boat or near the shore in shorts and t-shirt. Just before diving get into your suit, zip up and have a shower till you are completely soaked or splash into the sea => evaporative...

    Cost of gear summary

Nope, no caves. In a cave even a candle makes enough light, where on the open water it's nice to have power. She bought it because it makes a ton of light, both with a medium beam and a wide beam for the gopro she sticks on the head and has enough power to eventually feed an heated vest for a...

    Cost of gear summary

Well, fellow italian... I really don't like to look at it, but this is mine (actually my girlfriend's, but we have very similar gear)

    SPG or AI, Who’s Right?

I'd be betting on the Shearwater sensor too. Diving with Galileo and mechanical SPG, they are always in accord +-5 bar, so I check my brass and glass SPG just one or two times per dive...

    Harbor closed

3 days to spend in Cozumel and the first one is gone with the harbor closed... I hope tomorrow doesn't go the same way. Sorry I'm stuck in the Palace lobby and I need to vent =(

NITROX for any and all dives?

I use it whenever it's available without too much hassles... No downsides, less nitrogen and in many places it's free or at negligible upcharge like 2 euros.
