Trip Report *live* Indo Aggressor Komodo deep South trip quarantine @ LBJ March 2024

Interesting. Do you know when this is effective? I saw spaces being sold for Komodo for Sept/Oct time period with them as recently as March.

Question Could you sleep in an overwater bungalow with no A/C?

Similar experience in April 2022 and I did the exact same thing. Their nets were also very good compared to other places I’ve been at. Long, no gaps, overlap is significant. I also travel with a flat fan powered by a power bank just in case.

    Raja Ampat dream trip

If you want to spend all 4-6 weeks here, I’d suggest doing it land based across 2 resorts. I’ve done 3 liveaboards here and I like land based better. Quality of diving is better because you’re diving sites at the best tide times and conditions rather than what’s convenient for the liveaboards...

Trip Report Tompotika Dive Resort - December 2023

I’m confirmed for Tompotika at the end of September to early October. Your review and some word of mouth from friends really motivated me to explore the idea. Thank you again! I’m going to check out Triton Bay, Halmahera, and Tompotika this year. (Lots of new for me!) I look forward to...

    Alor: Macro vs wide angle

Thanks for your review! I’m glad to hear you had a good time. Regarding nitrox, I have some data for comparison and context if anyone is debating the need for nitrox. My max depth, average max depth, and average depth in Alor was the same as my Raja Ampat dives. In contrast, my Komodo average...

    Alor: Macro vs wide angle

Hi! We also saw blue whales in mid to late October and they were crossing in front of Alor Divers right up against the house reef. They were also up and down the strait a lot. Frequent sightings!

    Alor: Macro vs wide angle

I do something similar but mainly for storage with a portable dry bag and a Ruggard rechargeable desiccant that is recharged by plugging in. I use a Hakuba portable dry bag and have a small Govee digital hygrometer in there with my Ruggard (PDC-RC is the part number) when I am in places with no...

    Alor: Macro vs wide angle

Most of the time, I don’t set up my camera in an AC environment. I never have fogging issues but I think there may be a few things at play. I use an AO cooler to transport my camera onto the day boat and always keep it covered and away from extended direct sunlight at all times. By not allowing...

    Alor: Macro vs wide angle

Just to clarify, Alor Divers does not have AC. I was there as recently as October 2023 and have been twice. Alor Divers focuses mostly on wide angle dive sites and not much in Kalabahi Bay so if that’s your goal, they’re a solid op. If you want to focus on macro more, Alami Alor does and is...

Trip Report *live* Indo Aggressor Komodo deep South trip quarantine @ LBJ March 2024

Have you tried reaching out to them since the contract was terminated?

Suggested length of trip to Triton Bay?

Were they flying on Saturdays, Wednesdays, or another day? I am a bit worried about canceled flights because it’s a daily schedule but it doesn’t fly everyday based on flight history on FlightAware. Canceled flights are usually covered for trip interruption if there’s a covered reason but not...

    Triton Bay or Halmahera?

I will report back…I head to Triton Bay in a few weeks and will also be in Halmahera in early September, as well as Tompotika. These are all new areas for me.

Suggested length of trip to Triton Bay?

@Laval did you have any flight issues getting to/from Kaimana from Sorong such as cancellations?

Trip Report *live* Indo Aggressor Komodo deep South trip quarantine @ LBJ March 2024

What the Indo Aggressor did is very unacceptable. In a sense, the corporate Aggressor office’s stance is even worse by standing behind the Indo Aggressor’s actions. Their refusal to do anything or help is unbelievable. One would think it affects the entire brand position of the fleet and kills...

Fly Into Jakarta Or Bali For Raja Ampat Trips?

Swiss Bel Hotel. If you’re into birding and/or photography, you could do a bird tour while there. There are some options in the local areas or overnight into local villages. It’s not much of a tourist town and is more of a gateway to RA.

Fly Into Jakarta Or Bali For Raja Ampat Trips?

I’ve taken it 4 times and haven’t had it canceled but it’s always a possibility including maintenance issues. With that said, if you catch a flight the next day, it’s usually possible to catch up with the liveaboard in Waisai but it will obviously be a hassle and you lose a day. I advise you...

Komodo LoB in August - why so low occupancy?

I’ve been on the Tarata and would not return or suggest it for others. August is considered high season. Popular and reputable boats are pretty booked even going into Sept and Oct. re: them not sailing, you’d have to see what their policy is directly. As for the Tarata…The food was not that...

Advice needed for just one or two muck dives in North Sulawesi

While you’re close, it sounds like a hassle to do it given the short time you have when you factor in no fly and time to get there and back. I also feel like it wouldn’t be a good glimpse of what it’s really like given this.

Fly Into Jakarta Or Bali For Raja Ampat Trips?

Fly to Jakarta. There are 2 direct flights a day that are consistent and reliable. The direct from Bali seems to be hit or miss. I haven’t been able to find a flight, or it let me book then canceled on me and is routing me back to Jakarta for it.

Trip Report *live* Indo Aggressor Komodo deep South trip quarantine @ LBJ March 2024

Wow. I am so sorry to hear about this. That’s outrageous. Going in the off season has its weather risks and while they can’t control weather, they did not do their part in notifying everyone. That is incredibly frustrating and I don’t blame you for never trusting them again. I see where they are...
