What is your definition of a Cattle Boat

Reminds me of a great "dad joke" I've sprung on the kids before. When driving past a bunch of cows: Me: Look at the flock of cows over there. Kids: It's not "flock of cows," dad, it's "herd of cows!" Me: Of course I've heard of cows, there's a flock of 'em right over there! Anyway, to keep...

Death of my Son, I need some help

Having never had to walk the path you're on @Superlyte27, I have nothing to offer except my truly sincere condolences, as worthless and meaningless as that sounds. I can, however, identify with the sentiment and regrets expressed in this quote. I, too, focused on my career and advancement...

    Air Integration

I've heard that from others as well but I really don't notice it much. I notice the chirping at the start of the dive but by the time I'm "in the zone" I guess it fades into the background.

    Travel Souvenirs/Mementos

As you've said, it's not appropriate for young'uns, but I collect shot glasses. They're small, cheap, and easy to display. I just hit 100 in my collection and with a couple of exceptions that others have bought for me, they all represent places I've been personally and I can remember the shop...

    Recommend a liveaboard!

I can vouch for that as well since my son and I also did that last year on AA. Into St Kitts and out of St Martin (both through Miami) was about $700 and that's flying out of Tulsa which isn't necessarily the cheapest airport for flights.

    SW Missouri

Any idea what the conditions are at Beaver? My son and I are getting quite antsy waiting for Tenkiller to clear up and an alternative site would be nice. I've heard that both Beaver and Table Rock are a good bit colder than Tenkiller and that's what's kept us away so far as we both only have...

How Did You Find Your First Scuba Class?

I actually took my first breath underwater way back when I was in college. A friend at the time was into scuba and took me down in a local lake to about 15' and let me breath off a tank. I thought it was pretty cool but I just didn't have the time then to pursue it further and that friend...

    LDS gear is expensive

Pretty much agree with what others have posted. I'm willing to pay extra for the ability to see merchandise firsthand before buying, try it out first, ensure that I have that option in the future by supporting a local store, etc. How much extra depends on you and the diveshop but there...

    Air Integration

Liquivision transmitters use ultrasound and have a stated range of over 300'. Unfortunately, that is also a patented technology and LV DCs aren't very common.

    Subsurface 4.6.4

Done. Wasn't sure if the patch file needed to be in the message contents or as an attachment so I did both. How often do Windows builds occur (i.e., when might I be able to get binaries that include my changes)?

    Subsurface 4.6.4

@dirkhh, I've fixed several bugs in the Liquivision import section of Subsurface, including a nasty buffer overrun bug that causes Subsurface to crash on me consistently when importing my Liquivision Lynx dive log. I'm a long-time Windows dev and don't have the time right now to setup a Linux...

    Liquivision Rechargeable Battery

I think you're half right there. It won't be able to report any kind of accurate battery life status but I don't believe that its time keeping will be affected since that should be crystal- or oscillator-based. You might try to buy them directly from the manufacturer. I bought several that...

crowded day offshore KEY LARGO, saturday 5/27/17, pics

I've got a Canon 5DIII and a few assorted lenses. I've also got a PowerShot G12 that I use as a [semi-covert] concert camera and that's what I bought an Ikelite housing and strobe for and am trying to get the hang of using underwater. I'd love to get a housing for the 5D but I'm hesitant on...

    Recommend a liveaboard!

I've only been on the CEII. It's also the only LOB I've done (thus far). I have dived T&C from the Beaches resort so I can at least say that based on that limited experience, the diving there is fantastic. That said, one of the crew members on the CEII (I won't say who so as not to cause any...

crowded day offshore KEY LARGO, saturday 5/27/17, pics

Astounding shots as always, @timg! I do a bit of above-water photography and am trying to transfer some of those skills to underwater but it's a whole 'nother ballgame! Also curious on your camera setup...

    Recommend a liveaboard!

My son and I did the Caribbean Explorer II last year and had a blast. (I still owe a trip report but haven't had time to put together my photos and videos yet. :() As Kathy shows in her post, they're having a 30th anniversary sale which makes it less than $1500 per person (normally $2K). They...

In search of octo holder that actually works

I don't know enough about the professions of other members on this board to either agree with or challenge that assertion, BUT, it does apply to both me and my dive-buddy son. :)

In search of octo holder that actually works

Well, it was a cool reference used appropriately here. Niven's one of my favorite authors. It just got me to wondering if the same thing that drives some people to come here looking to learn about and/or share more of the technical aspects of diving (as I assume most who come here do) also...
