Where in Canada are you located? In Vancouver we dive all year, and the shops will give you a schedule as soon as as you sign up.
Especially in summer they may be booked up and the start date my not be as soon as you like, but you get one set right away usually wth the possibility to waitlist...
Was the 12l tank steel or aluminum? I’ve dove with 2 types of HP 80, 3 types of HP100, HP 117 and HP 120 and all needed about the same amount of weight.
My math shows a 12l tank is about an HP100 assuming a 237bar/3450psi fill.
And were the weights in lbs or kg? In Mexico I’ve been handed a...
I intend to save the environment by switching to Platinum weights. They are also denser than lead so I’ll be able to lower the total weight needed by a small amount. It is very resistant to corrosion, and fairly easy to work with.
I’ll need several kg for cold water dry suit diving...
@ofg-1 beat me to it. The course is 5 more dives with an instructor to help you out on all sorts of skills and knowledge that might or might not completely match the title of the 5 dives.
All the instructors I see locally choose Peak Performance Bouyancy as one of the elective dives. Almost...
Scubapro Hydros Pro and Aqualung Dimension both fit tall, slim long torsos well if you prefer a Back Inflate BCD over a BP/W. I’m a slightly shorter version of the OP, and both fit me well.
The Hydros is mostly rubber against your exposure suit so it is sticky and doesn’t move around.
The...
Set the Suunto Eon to the Buhlman algorithm and it will not lock out. This feature is over 4 years old.
And do you really plan to miss over 4 minutes of Deco and then go on another dive?
I tell my rescue students “BP/Ws are easier to remove as they have less plastic and padding to get in the way of this!” <wave my Z knife menacingly at the nearest student’s BP/W straps>
Leads to a discussion on we won’t be damaging any equipment (or students) in the course but in real life...
I’d encourage all divers to take rescue.
When? As soon as you are comfortable with your own diving, not constantly struggling with buoyancy, etc. This will be a different number of dives for everyone and might be more dives for cold water drysuit divers than tropical divers.
Were you in a group of 12 students in the water? Or was it divided into smaller groups?
Also are you counting Instructors in that “6 or 7” or were they additional? Instructors are different than dive masters.
I’m interested in the number of Students, Instructors and Divemasters or other...
My bright orange Scubapro Seawing Nova Gorillas get many compliments from my students on being easy to see in our murky, green, BC waters.
Just did 19 dives in Socorro with hundreds of sharks including Tigers and Hammerheads not showing any interest in them.
A dolphin however, did give them a...
The Lotus has great cargo pockets. They hold lots and are mounted lower than most BCDs so are easy to access. I had a Dimension which is the same model in Men’s sizes and the pockets came in very handy while teaching to carry spare weights, fin straps, defog etc.
The disadvantage of Aqualung is...
Done this many times, never an issue. Mostly OK buddies, once or twice exceptional buddies.
Highly recommend Club Med resorts as they have Lots to do for the wife. Far more than other all inclusives I’ve been too
There is a huge amount of personal fit/preference here.
I like the Atomic mouthpieces. Medium length, fairly thick and no ridge on the roof of the mouth.
Thin mouthpieces I chew through quickly; I probably bite down harder than necessary.
I once dove with a couple who each wore one blue fin and one red fin so they could instantly identify each other.
Check out your buddy and guides gear before splashing so you can ID them underwater. There is usually something you can use to tell them apart, though sometimes the whole group...
