I'm 71 and DAN won't insure me -- now what?

I got a notice last week that DAN won't continue my dive insurance because I'm now 71. Dive Assure won't insure me for incidents in the US. Anyone know of another company that will insure a diver for dive incidents? My insurance now expires July 31.

    Found My Old Gear

A little while ago, while looking for something else in an old shed, I found my two old double hose regulators from the late '60s. My first reg was an Aqua-Lung "DA" Navy Approved -- S/N 50043; my second reg was an Aqua-Lung DA "aqua-master" S/N 219374 I thought they were long gone but...

    TSandM -- Lynne Flaherty

Today, Aug. 25, 2015, while on a dive with me, her husband, Lynne failed to surface. The Coast Guard is still searching but it is highly unlikely of a successful rescue. She had always told me that in the event of her death, she wanted all of the details to be made public. Unfortunately...

12-50 Oly Lens -- Software Controllable?

Just a question for someone who also might be a hacker. Is the Only 12-50 lens, the one with the "Macro" setting, hackable? The real question is, could the switch from "normal" to "macro" be done by software as opposed to physically moving the ring? I know the one person has done a physical...

    Moving On from E-PL1 ...

Have you? If so, to what system did you go? And, have you found any significant difference in your images? I had an interesting discussion with a photographer friend yesterday. He told me he wasn't upgrading his system (Canon) because it was more camera than he was using right now. This is...

First pictures with E-PL1, 9-18 Lens, Zen Dome and 2 Inon d2000 stobes

I've been using the E-PL1 pretty much since it was first released with the Oly housing and the kit lens (now using the 12-50 lens mostly) behind the flat port, one d2000 strobe. We are in Mexico, diving in the caves, and Lynne "made me" take her set-up which has the Zen port, 9-18 lens and two...

    Suunto Dive Manager 1.6 Wanted

I've been using 1.6 for quite some time and it works for me. I have a new computer system and would like to install it but I can't seem to find a install version of 1.6 (at least one that I trust!). Anyone still have the download install for 1.6 you could send me? Thank you.

    "Doing it Cheap" Why?

A couple of current threads have hit me -- Why do people want to "Do It Cheap" when it comes to scuba? Now, don't get me wrong, I can be as cheap as the next person -- just ask my wife. In fact, I've been hassling over buying a new computer that I saw on sale at $499 but won't buy it at $599...

I Got a New Santi Dry Suit and I Love It!

Over the past 9 years, I've had (hmmm) five different dry suits: High-Tide (Neoprene) (bought new and sold years ago) White's Fusion (laminate) (bought new and is my warm water/back up suit) Bare XDC2 (Compressed Neoprene) (bought new and just sold) DUI TLS (laminate) (bought very used and...

    Bare Dry Suit -- "Large-Short"

Now that I just got a fourth dry suit, my wife says I must sell at least one! Thus my Bare XCD2 Tech Dry, compressed neoprene suit, is up for sale -- $550 plus freight. The suit is a "Large - Short" which means it is designed for someone in the 180-205 pound, 5'7" - 5' 9" range. (You can get...

Review -- Mares Power Plana Fins

I was provided with a pair of Mares Power Plana fins to use and evaluate and thought I would tell the Scuba Board world of my experience with them. I’ve been a strong fan of Jet Fins (I even have a pair from the early 70s) because they allow me to be very precise in my fin movements. What I...

12-50 mm lens -- ports and gears?

Right now, what are the options for the 12-50 mm lens? I've seen an Austrian company has a gear for the lens that fits the Oly housings but doesn't allow for changing from "normal" to "macro." I've seen the hack that a Scubaboarder has for using the lens but doing electronic surgery seems to...

    12-50 zoom & Oly Housing E-PL1

Can someone (Phil, Jack?) let me know if the 12-50 kit lens will fit in the Oly E-PL1 housing? And if so, can the zoom be used? (I know the Macro function can't be accessed without some special hack which is way beyond me!) If the lens fits, which is preferred, the standard flat port or a Zen...

Diving the Riviera Maya -- Better Than Coz?

I just returned from a 10 day trip to the Riviera Maya -- Puerto Aventuras (about 80 km south of Cancun). This was my 11th (?) trip to the area but the first one in which I led a group of 22 divers -- hard core cavers to very low dive number OW people. I think I can sum up the trip and diving...

    Zen Interfering with Suunto Vytec!

I've been diving a Vytec (guage mode with transmitter for pressure reading) for years and generally used it alongside/next to an X1. For the past few months I've been using a Zen and noticed my Vytec started unsynching early in the dive. I finally sent the thing back to Suunto who charged me...
