Xdeep or dive rite for sidemount

I've gone through quite a few of the X-Deep... I really like them on paper, but when it comes to me actually using them, I am not a fan.. Classic ... Sooo much bungee to keep the bladder where it "should" be, but alas, it always ends up way down past my waist. Tec ... bladder is integrated...

Partial pressure nitrox fills at home?

True... but assuming "worst" case of 1 T rental, and only 1 scuba cylinder ... so you return with say 400psi because you don't have another cylinder to fill any more O2 into... and need to return the cylinder to swap to a fresh one... or dive weaker nitrox. Multiple dive cylinders, and multiple...

Partial pressure nitrox fills at home?

It depends ...... (classic answer) It depends on if the store will allow you to bring in pure O2 tanks for them to top off with air/mix It depends on if the store will allow any employee to do such act ("hey new guy, top off all the tanks") It depends on if the store knows how much pressure...

    Belize Diving Services

Makes sense for Major to go over there, as he’s the only one that lived on Sam Pedro back in the BDS days… I know a few were taking the ferries over for larger groups during covid, but that doesn’t seem to be a good long term solution for any of them.. Hope they will get it all sorted. _R

Ukraine crisis and cost of helium

With the way everything is going up since the fall… I’m locked in for a few more months on a yearly rate… might just snag every bottle I can find and fill my banks with He! Set for a few years of CC diving (roughly works out to 1.20USD /cuft including bottle lease) _R

    Hand signal to end/terminate dive?

There are many ways to ‘end a dive’ and at least n+1 ways to signal that… If a thumb is thrown, we’re going up, no site seeing, deco/safety stops as required unless communicated. Thumb with a finger (direction), we’re going back, no site seeing on the way to our anchor, entrance, shore, etc...

    Tulum shops & accommodations?

Third dimension diving. Kelvin and Anabel can handle whatever kind of diving you are looking for. They also have lots of contacts with great places to stay! _R

What kind of container do you use to store o-rings?

Like most, plastic ‘parts’ box. The ones I have are 3x5x1.5” with 3 fixed dividers. O rings are in mini ziplock baggies with the sizes (and when applicable, what they’re for)… Best of both worlds with significantly less chance of orings getting in the wrong compartment _R

Joining webbing together (buckle or something else?!)

So what keeps the rest of them from flying forward in the event of a crash? On another note, any car seat anchors in the back of the seat or trunk? _R

Why is there no alert system on the perdix ?

Ummmmmm…. Well, on your wired petrel, the screen will start flashing RED as soon as you go above 1.6, along with your HUD (if you have one). If you or your teammates can’t see that, you may have bigger issues than not looking at your wrist while diving a rebreather…. Going hyperoxic doesn’t...

    Belize Diving Services

Indeed Indeed Chip wasn’t the first owner, but he carried on technical and cave diving opportunities to those that were looking for it. Now there is none. The new owners don’t have the interest or capability (I don’t know what happened to the rest of the equipment) _R

    Belize Diving Services

Well, a year ago Chip sold the business and went back to the states. It was sold to Elite Adventures on Sam Pedro, Some of the staff were able to transition over (from what I saw in some pictures on Facebook), I don’t know how full time, or if any moved off Caye Caulker in doing so. This is...

    Question Tri-Mix regulator questions

Thanks! I do everything else metric, except for gas pricing and blending, as everything here is cuft… and reading 1psi is easier than .1bar on my blending gauges 🤪 _R

    Question Tri-Mix regulator questions

$0.18/L works out to $11-12/cuft! Unless my math is horribly wrong. Most I’ve paid for helium has been $5US/cuft in the Caribbean. It was an expensive and glorious dive! With $2/cuft at a Mod2 level dive (based on OC 1 deco gas square profile), it’s roughly 70-80 dives to break even on a 10k...

    Question Tri-Mix regulator questions

I’m fortunate that locally, I pay about 1.60USD/cuft + O2 at the shops, but I do my own blending, so it’s down to 0.60USD/cuft…. Minus yearly cylinder leases, booster setup and maintenance and a relationship with the owner of a dive compressor There is some merrit to debate on CCR.. If you...

    Question Poll: sidemount or backmount?

I dive both, including a sidemount rebreather. My answer will always be the same… backmount doubles. If your legs can’t handle it (unless is it a medical issue), do strength training (which will help out regardless). I have less than 1mm of tendon attached left in both knee caps (I can’t lift...

Question Fair price for Worthington X7-100

I usually buy steel tanks for <300CAD… many go for more than that… (some to a ridiculous price of new, while being out of hydro) but I don’t buy them at that price.. Selling them however is a different story.. (but then they’re usually newly hydrod, usually O2 clean and fresh vis) _R
