    What log book to get?

My first two logbooks were given with classes. After that, I've always used basic notebooks, ones that fit easily in pockets. I prefer those since I can adjust what I want to write, am not constrained by a format, and have as much space as I want for each dive. Sometimes, I buy a nice souvenir...

    Flights SOQ > TPE

Garuda and China Airlines are both Skyteam airlines, whereas Eva Air is Star Alliance. From my experience, it's easy to combine airlines from the same alliance, but I've very seldom seen it done when the airlines are from different alliances.

    Keeping Your Buddy

Here in Asia, it seems people are pretty fond of fancy hoods (Hello Kitty, minions, panda, all types of fishes and sharks, aliens, et), as well as floaty toys attached to one's regs first stage (I hate those. I've already had to help a few time divers who got their hoses all entangled in their...

    Eco-unfriendly Divers

Haha, thanks, but now way :giggle: I still have far too much to learn before anything like that can ever happen :p I'm just passing on all the info and knowledge fantastic divers have shared with me on dive boats and Scubaboard  I still remember, not so long ago, when I was the clueless...

    Eco-unfriendly Divers

Hi, I see this quite often, and I do believe that most of the time, people just don't know and never thought about these subjects. I am lucky that I speak three of the most common languages in the world, and like to strike up conversations on the boat (there was only once where I was not able...

    My journey into tech

I learned sidemount last May. I went directly for the TDI sidemount and I didn't even know there was a SDI version before reading this thread. I believe I had less dives than you when I took that class, and didn't find it very difficult, and didn't feel the need for an extra class in between...

    Neutrally Boyant?

I have a few Sharkskin items. I use these under my wetsuit, when I feel too cold (which happens quite often). I've never tried to use them as my only exposure suit. I love them exactly because I find them neutrally buoyant. I can just add or take-off a layer without changing my weights (and I do...

How do you all mark your transmitters?

Thanks for the notification. For now, my transmitters are still holding, but I'll remember for next time!

Caye Caulker Operator and Divesite Recommendations pls!

    newbie adventures and misadventures

I have long hair (they reach all the way down my back). I agree with that. For me, nothing works as well as French/Dutch braids (you can have fun with those. One, two, three, or why not even more). An neoprene mask strap. That's a must for long hair.

    South Africa diving - overview?

Looking for decent diving in Taiwan

So I guess diving around Taipei at the end of November is not recommended? I will be back there for meetings at that period and was wondering if it would be the occasion to discover how the diving was in the area was. I suppose going back to Kenting would be a better idea.

    South Africa diving - overview?

Antiquing is actually perfect! That would be a good news for her, she is quite a collector. And diamonds would be nice (I believe that's the actual reason why she decided to go to South Africa). But that would be a rather less good news for my dad. I'm glad to hear that being the only diver...

    South Africa diving - overview?

I don't mind hot and humid. I'm used to it from here. And I can carry my gear, even in this weather (actually, I don't like people to touch my gear, so that's actually great). What worried me though is your mention of not taking one diver alone out. I will be the only diver (I'm travelling with...

    South Africa diving - overview?

Hi, sorry to hijack the thread. I am going to South Africa soon too, but in February. Do the recommendations given here stand for that period too? Can I hope for warmer water temperatures? Thanks.

    Chinese diving equipment

Well, I work here, and am regularly in contact with Chinese industry. I have to admit that what they are doing is impressive. And most impressive is the speed at which they are doing it. In my fields at least, they are not going yet at the level of foreign industries, but they are catching up...

Looking for decent diving in Taiwan

I have dived with DivePro in Kenting. Really nice, good operation, flexible, helpful. Rental equipment seemed nice when I was there, which is not always the case in Taiwan from what I have been told. And they have free nitrox for everyone certified  Oh, and almost everyone there speaks...

    Chinese diving equipment

Well, I live in China, and there's this fantastic and dangerous thing called Taobao. Dfifficult to resist... I own a lot of accessories made in China (spools, DSMB, etc.), and have no issues with those. My lights all come from China too, and same as above, I am very happy with those. When I...
