This is a great choice. I totally feel you on the wanting to protect your wife however. It was a lesson learned and thankfully nothing (tragic) happened. You were made wiser for it, and now you can bring that experience forward into your future diving!
edit: added a word
While you already know what you did and the mistakes that were made, I guess my question would be what is the harm in adding 1 additional kg? This near miss incident should be a good indicator for it. Ultimately, what's 1 kg vs. your life? Not saying it's guaranteed to happen again, but I have...
If you have any interest in tech training down the line, skip the BCD and go BP/W like Couv mentioned. You will be required to buy it at the start of tech training anyway, so may as well get it now. Follow the "buy once, cry once" philosophy. You've already got the Perdix so that was a GREAT...
Try to squeeze a dive in at Catalina Island in that case. The water can get cold at times, but the thicker wetsuits help if you are not drysuit certified. I think Eco Divers or Hollywood Divers does charters. I haven't actually done dives in LA as I stick to SD primarily. Have fun!
Hey @Eric Sedletzky I was wondering where I'm at on the lineup for the thin plate. I've got a couple trips planned this year (finally!) and I'm wondering if I have a freedom plate to look forward to. You are awesome.
I bought a BP/W immediately after my OW course and I regret nothing. The only "upgrade" I've had to do to it is buy a doubles wing when I moved into tech.
I just wanna say I LOVE my multifocal contacts for diving. I have a similar story as yours, had vision correction, got a little worse, multifocals solve the problem perfectly.
For what it's worth, I LOVE my HOG regs. The 2 shops in my area aren't HOG dealers and I've never had an issue with getting them serviced. I will probably go the DIY route eventually anyway, but I've got 4 sets of regs from them and I have never had any issues whatsoever.
It's already been answered pretty comprehensively, but here is for stage bottles and the like as well. I used this for my routing. https://frogkickdiving.com/configuration-%26-how-tos
I, for one, am definitely going to use Salty Endeavors on my inaugural trip to Cozumel (whenever that is) as a thank you. I'm not really looking for much more training down the SSI route, but I will certainly throw some money towards some dives.
Salty Endeavers hooked it up. I'm looking forward to going to Cozumel and booking some dives as a thank you. I did the course over a week I think, SE will set up zoom meetings or emails with you if you need extra clarification.
Hey everyone, thanks for all the responses. It gives me a bit to think about. I'll be primarily diving calmer waters in SD so the slim would probably be the go to. The charters I'd be diving with have plenty of tech divers so there will always be several DSMBs around. I may just go with what...
Normally I'd go with the DGX option, but I'm trying to support the LDS in this case since the whole COVID thing is hurting local business quite a bit. This is the only local tech shop in my area, so if I have to spend a bit (twice) more to help them stay in business, so be it.
