    Islamarada Dive op recommendations

godive1, Honestly all of the boats in Islamorada have access and regularly schedule trips to those places you want to see. I was there in July and October this year and all of the boats were operating. I used Islamorada Dive Center on Windley Key and they were great. Awesome boat captain (Sean)...

Heisler Park fatality - Laguna Beach, California

Sam I think the convenience of beach diving and the very predictable conditions draw most local divers to Shaw’s Cove, along with the Beach Cities shop literally two blocks away. The two shops I was with took their students either there or Veteran’s Park in Redondo so the familiarity of those...

Is it time to sink the CESA?

Agreed with all the above! I fully believe that one should display water confidence/ drownproofing prior to any SCUBA training. Training would be able to be geared more toward performing emergency procedures, like the CESA, which could be lifesaving in a quickly unfolding event. Panic is a killer.

Is it time to sink the CESA?

I feel that doing the CESAs in the pool have some positive muscle memory benefits in exhaling constantly through the mouthpiece, venting the BCD, checking overhead, etc. I’ve had the CESA headache too, so maybe the pass/ fail should be in the pool at a 45 degree angle then during OW dive 4, a...

Is it time to sink the CESA?

You all bring up another HUGE pet peeve of mine and that is proper weighting. I see so many divers blowing this off and it definitely contributes to an uncontrolled ascent. I always stress that adding or subtracting all that junk hanging off of the BCD affects buoyancy, a hood, a camera...

Is it time to sink the CESA?

I have had students bolt to the surface during the Basic Open Water and Advanced Open Water Courses, and also while DM'ing dives for groups. I would expect the divers to know not to ever hold their breath while breathing compressed air underwater. But task overloading and panic induced by...

    Notka Pulse underwater metal detector?

I have the Nokta Simplex which is good for shallow water, 3 meters, and it is absolutely incredible. I like the fact that I can update the software on the unit with the included cable.

Trip Report Key Largo/Islamorada Trip Report

Skeptic14, I was on Crocker and Davis reef on July 22 and I saw the same huge green moray eel! Definitely diver friendly, wasn't he? And those nurse sharks, wow! They snuck up on me from behind and scared about 20psi of air out of me! What an incredible dive day that was. I went with Islamorada...
