Sea Elite / Typhoon / Tusa drysuit?

Unfotunately I haven't been on in a while and missed this one. I have an older imprex drysuit (bought in late summer of 1997). It is also built by Typhoon but with the rear entry zipper. I believe the entire suit is balistic grade nylon (whatever that means). Anyway, the tri-lam is...

Volunteer lake trout diving project - Saturday

Hi This is fairly short notice, but we have just had a spot open up on our boat, so if there is someone interested in joining us, you would be more than welcome. Here's the scoop. As part of an ongoing lake trout spawning shoal assessment study being conducted in Big Rideau Lake in...

    Best Vis in Ontario

The Zebra mussel populations do tend to settle at a density lower than their maximum after colonization. Decreased resource levels (food, etc) are often the most visible reason, although localized reductions can occur for a wide variety of reasons (local toxic accumulation, lack of oxygen...

    Best Vis in Ontario

The back lakes are great for diving. The vis may be lower, but the diversity is staggering. It's like exploring a new lake each dive.

    oshawa-whitby

hmmmm.....i'm not sure what the normal visibility would be for that area of Lake Ontario. We dove a couple days in January and the wind was a tad strong......needless to say our vis was about 3 feet because of the wave action. i would say we reached a depth of about 25 feet or so. While...

    oshawa-whitby

hmmmm....you are probably best to head north to the falls.......Fenelon Falls I think its called. Brian at Divesource in Whitby can give you good directions. I've done a few shore dives around Oshawa/Whitby area in Lake Ontario and was bored silly. Maybe there is something spectacular to...

which one would you buy the cobra or Vyper

I picked up the vyper for its wrist-mounting. Its nice to simply "look at your watch" and get your important dive stats. Being able to monitoring breathing rates and remaining air is a nice option, but personally it wasn't a selling point. cheers

Thank you, thank you, thank you

I'm here. Not quite hibernating, although we did break through the icey slush on Saturday. Lets hear from all the Ontario folks out there! So we need a name? How about something that describes the cold water......Polar Divers?, GWN Divers (Great White North)? just a couple of thoughts...

    diving jobs

SF2000 I'll take a stab at the biological side of things for you. For better or for worse, grades will matter as far as getting into university for marine biology. I would say, one of the most important things to do if you are really serious about underwater biological research...

    Dry gloves-again

Good point about the moisture. These are supposed to be a "aluminized fabric"..If they are a cotton knit with simply strands of aluminun woven in, then it shouldn't be too bad. I think I'll try a pair anyway and see what happens

    Dry gloves-again

Just a thought. I was looking through one of my snowmobile parts catalogs (because with the lack of snow around here I might as well go arm-chair sledding), and came across aluminized-fabric glove liners. I.e., heat reflective. At $6.95 I may try a pair to see if it increases comfort for...

    Drysuits without boots built in?

I'm not sure what the costs are for replacement drysuit boots these days, but first check into the cost of adding boots to the suit, to give you an idea of what you might get into if you find that detached boots are not suitable for your diving. You can do it yourself or take it to your local...

    Suunto Vyper/ Wrist Or Console??

Zept I found a lanyard (like those for an underwater light), but with a thin, very flexible, elastic cable instead of the thick string normally found on them. I threaded the loop through the first buckle hole next to the computer itself, and then threaded the lanyard through that exposed...

    Suunto Vyper/ Wrist Or Console??

If you have decided on the Vyper, then the wrist location is probably the way to go. Mine is a wrist mount and I wouldn't consider moving it....its just too convenient. One note.....add a lanyard to it, attached to your wrist and you won't have to worry about surfacing without it. Cheers

    Dry gloves-again

Buff A couple of answers. First, I use my nordic blue's alot and love them. I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that they could be specially ordered with the ring system if you wanted to go that route (I have latex seals). They are a very heavy duty glove and have stood up...

    Poseidon Jetstream/Odin

Scott I wouldn't worry at all about servicing issues in Ontario. Odins appear to be quite popular up here, so there are some awsome Poseidon Techs around, and finding one is not hard. As far as buying one in Ontario, for a comparison, I can email you the name of a shop that I have dealt...

    Poseidon Jetstream/Odin

Hey Buff, here we go! Scott, First of all....you HAVE to try an Odin. You will either like it, or you will develop at deep and burning resentment of it.....and make sure you try it at depth as well, and not just a pool dive. I use mine as an almost daily work reg and love it. I don't...
